For almost a month, continuous rains have battered the Cordilleras, triggering landslides in several areas.

One of the hardest hit is the Lepa-ak Road โ€” a vital route going to Bedbed Proper.

In the spirit of binnadang, residents and the LGU immediately worked together to clear and restore the road. Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company joined the brigade by donating 200 liters of diesel for the backhoes and loaders used in the clearing and restoration operations.

This act once again shows the enduring spirit of binnadang among the I-Mankayans โ€” helping one another in times of need, because no one is left behind.

In the true spirit of ๐™—๐™–๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™๐™–๐™ฃ, Mankayan, once again showed that when communities come together, challenges become opportunities to help and serve one another.

Lepanto provided 200 liters needed for the clearing and restoration along the damaged portion at Km 3 ,Tabio. And 60 meters new cables to the MDRMMC to support their monitoring activities and rescue operations around Mankayan.

Beyond the fuel and resources, this initiative reflects something more meaningful, the shared commitment to the safety, mobility, and well-being of our communities. Bayanihan is about lending a hand when help is needed, working together despite our different roles, and putting the welfare of the community above all else.

This collaboration among the LGU, BLGU, PNP, MDRRMC, and Lepanto proves that much can be achieved when we stand together with one purpose. Through cooperation, trust, and genuine concern for one another, we keep the spirit of bayanihan alive.

The Cervantes Local Government Unit continues to prioritize education as evidenced by its annual allocation of PHP 2,000,000.00 for LEAP from its SDMP share. To date, Cervantes has produced 255 LEAP graduates, with more to come.

Together with Lepantoโ€™s Community Relations representatives, the Cervantes Gymnasium was filled with 133 hopeful applicants vying for the 42 available slots for this yearโ€™s LEAP program. Applicants who were not accommodated have been placed on the waiting list.

With PHP 7,000.00 financial assistance per scholar, this program will help students achieve their dreams and continue their education.

Lepanto stands one with Cervantes in its firm belief that education is for all. No one should be left behind.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Baguio-Benguet and Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMC) met on August 4, 2026, to strengthen collaboration on the bamboo industry and community livelihood programs in Benguet.

Led by DTI Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist Ms. Layla A. Corro, the meeting highlighted key initiatives that support sustainable growth in the bamboo, wearables, and homestyle sectors.

A major milestone was DTIโ€™s presentation of the proposed Benguet Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council. DTI invited LCMC to join as a key partner in advancing the industry.

LCMC Administrative and Group Services Manager Rolando D. Ursua expressed strong support for the initiative and reaffirmed Lepantoโ€™s commitment to community development.

The discussion also explored potential collaborations in: coffee and cacao production; weaving and creative industries; and a Shared Service Facility (SSF) for baking.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and stronger community livelihoods in Benguet.

Preparations are underway for the San Roqueโ€“Proper Paco Road Improvement Project amounting to โ‚ฑ644,761.52 from Barangay Pacoโ€™s share of Lepantoโ€™s SDMP. Stakeholders met to align plans and ensure smooth implementation.

Beyond improved roads, this project advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3, 8, 9, and 11 โ€” bringing better health access, livelihood opportunities, infrastructure, and community resilience. Aligning SDMP projects to the UN SDGs is required under DENR DAO 2025-10. An aligned vision turns every road into a pathway to shared progress.

Under the Lepanto Educational Assistance Program (LEAP), and in close coordination with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), such as Barangay Tabio โ€” a portion of the barangayโ€™s SDMP share is allocated to support deserving students pursuing higher education.

Investing in education opens doors to better opportunities and upward mobility, while helping address social challenges such as early pregnancies and school dropouts. Barangay Tabio recognizes this deeply, which is why interest in the LEAP grant far exceeds available slots โ€” making a thorough interview process essential to fair and transparent selection.

We extend our gratitude to the applicants, their parents, and barangay officials for their trust and partnership. As long as Lepanto responsibly mines the earthโ€™s treasures, there will always be support for the scholars of Mankayan.

Grantees from Barangays Colalo and Paco made up the seventh batch of our LEAP Mine Tour. The day started with health screening at Lepanto Hospital and a thorough orientation on our tour objectives and safety guidelines. Participants then walked through mine tunnels to observe and learn mining operational processes, followed by educational visits to the Engineered Sanitary Landfill and Tailings Storage Facility to also learn about proper waste and environmental management.

Upon returning to DTC, they documented their experiences via the Mine Tour Appreciation Survey. Following suggestions from prior participants, the group joined the SDMP learning retention exercise โ€” a team-based recall activity that challenged everyone to recount key lessons from the SDMP presentation.

The outcome was clear: improved knowledge retention, lively teamwork, and meaningful connections between students from different barangays. The day wrapped up with a shared snack; the group departed with quiet gratitude, a deeper respect for the earth and mining as a vital industry, and a strong appreciation for communication, cooperation, and mutual trust.

Today, the halls of Guinaoang and Taneg were full. Full of hope. Full of dreams.
Lepantoโ€™s Community Relations Team and barangay officials reviewed folders for the LEAP applications under the SDMP program.
Every folder opened is iyaman returned.
Every scholar supported is iyaman shared.

Through this program, LCMC reaffirms its commitment: that after 90 years of mining, our legacy will be measured not only in what we have extracted, but in the dreams we helped build โ€” from the mine to the minds.

Batch 6 of our LEAP Mine Tour was made up of grantees from Balili and Poblacion.

They walked through mine tunnels, saw drill operators in action, felt the cool air turn warm as the heavy shaft doors closed, and learned about Lepantoโ€™s Engineered Sanitary Landfill and Tailings Storage Facility.

After the tour, they came back to DTC asking for more. So we gave them one Structured Learning Exercise โ€” a game to make your partner laugh without touching.

The result? Laughter. Bonding. And lessons that stuck.

From the 131 survey forms weโ€™ve read, students are telling us: they want to learn AND remember. Weโ€™re listening.

More SLEs coming for the next batch.
