Marietta Bonilla on January 30, 2014. It gives free shelter to Pediatric Cancer patients and parents of Philippine General Hospital. These patients are from different provinces of the Philippines, who came to Manila to get free and complete treatment at PGH because the hospitals in their provinces are not fully equipped. In some cases, patients must be in PGH every day or weekly because of long-te
rm treatment, but the predicament they are facing is that they don't have enough money to support their transportation or can't afford to rent a place to stay in Manila. Instead of going back and forth from their provinces or spending their last money on a fancy room, they chose to sleep on the sidewalk of the hospital to wait for the patients' next check-up or treatment. Sadly, many of the patients abandoned their treatment. They chose to go back to their provinces and spend their last days or hours creating happy moments with their families all because of financial hardships and lack of support. That is how Bahay Aruga came into life. Bahay Aruga is not only providing free shelter to Pediatric Cancer patients but also guiding and supplying them with personal needs such as
-Daily food
-Hygiene kits
-Medicines and cash assistance
-Medical supplies and equipment
-Clothes and Bags
-Toys and School supplies
-Grocery packs for them and their families
-Free Transportation via Bahay Aruga's
-Free use of Wi-fi for online consultation
Bahay Aruga also helps the parents to have an extra income through its’ projects
-"Gawang Kamay ni Inay" (selling of handcrafted beaded products like key chains, face mask holders, etc)
-"Ang Pinta ng Buhay" (paintings made by patients are for sale and auctioned; proceeds directly go to them)
-"Bahay Aruga's Bakery" (newest project) Sustainability has always been an issue and when the Baking Project was thought of, not only it would sustain the needs of Bahay Aruga in terms of utility expenses, but to train the parents/carers to have something to take with them when they go back to their respective provinces. We will give them baking training and as much as possible provide them with baking materials (including a table oven) that they can take with them when they go back to their provinces so they can sustain their livelihood and also medication for their sick child. Bahay Aruga is giving utmost consideration to make their stay comfortable, as cancer treatments can often be difficult and at times mind-boggling - mentally, emotionally, financially, and otherwise. Mission
To spread awareness about Childhood Cancer and to promote cancer prevention. Vision
To increase the survival rate of children afflicted with different kinds of cancer by providing them free shelter and supporting them while undergoing treatment in PGH.
