Association of Geologists and Geological Engineers of Mapua

Association of Geologists and Geological Engineers of Mapua AGGEM is an accredited organization of Mapúa University composed of GEO/GSE students and alumni. Founded through the efforts of Mr. Duquillo, Azriel Karl M.

The Association of Geologists and Geological Engineers of Mapúa (AGGEM) is a distinguished non-stock, non-profit organization based at Mapúa University in Intramuros, Manila. It serves as an exclusive community for aspiring geologists and geological engineers. Clement Fajardo, the inaugural chairman, AGGEM successfully unified GEO and GSE students under one banner. The organization was initially g

uided by the expertise of Dr. Karlo Queano, a celebrated and reputed geologist in the Philippines, who served as its first faculty adviser. In its early years, AGGEM achieved significant successes, thanks to the dedication and hard work of its pioneering officers. Notable accomplishments during this period include the induction of members at La Mesa Eco Park, the organization of the Geohazards and Mitigation Seminar, the hosting of a Science Quiz Show, and the coordination of an educational field trip to Palawan. These events not only marked milestones for AGGEM but also set a high standard for future endeavors, establishing a strong foundation for the organization's ongoing growth and impact. The Philippines is more than a collection of islands—it is a landscape shaped by millions of years of tectonic movement, volcanism, uplift, and sedimentation. From the limestone cliffs of Palawan and Cebu, to the mineral-rich mountains of Benguet, the ancient oceanic crust of Zambales and Dinagat, and the volcanic landscapes of the Macolod Corridor, every place tells 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘬.

💡 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Many geologic formations are named after the places where they were first described or best exposed. This is why we have names such as the Guadalupe Formation, Pugo Formation, Zigzag Formation, Kennon Limestone, and Mirador Limestone, all of which are named after familiar Philippine locations.

As we explore the country, we are also exploring chapters of Earth’s history. The mountains we climb, the caves we visit, and the landscapes we admire are reminders that geology is all around us, quietly shaping the world beneath our feet. ⛰️✨

🪨🌿 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 is a field that applies geologic science to the interactions between humans and Earth systems. By studying how natural processes and human activities influence one another, environmental geology helps address real-world challenges such as 💧 groundwater protection, ⚠️ hazard assessment, 🏞️ land stability, 🌎 pollution mitigation, and ♻️ the sustainable management of Earth’s resources.

Through the integration of scientific knowledge and practical solutions, environmental geologists contribute to climate adaptation, environmental planning, infrastructure safety, and long-term sustainability. Their work plays a vital role in helping communities better understand and respond to environmental challenges while balancing development with responsible resource use.

Protecting the planet begins with understanding it. Environmental geology provides the scientific foundation needed to make informed decisions that support resilient communities, safeguard natural resources, and build a more sustainable future for all. 🌱🌏

Maligayang Araw ng Kagitingan! 🇵🇭
