Day 6, 18-Day Campaign to End VAW 2025

Virginity: Pag Babae, Masama; Pag Lalaki, Astig?

Virginity is just a fancy word for patriarchal control over women. For men, collecting a woman’s virginity boosts their ego and masculinity, heeded as a mark of honor, with “body count” treated like medals. For women, losing their virginity is a perilous slap, condemning them as dirty and slut, as society imposed a morally pure persona on women.

These double standards are a form of violence against women. A person’s worth should never be based on their sexual history—reducing someone to a number erases their dignity, choices, and humanity. Sexual experience is personal, and it reflects individual decisions and consent, not morality or gendered expectations.

It’s time to create a new social construct where women’s body is not objectified and controlled, but respected. Women should live in a violence-free society.

END VAWC NOW!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵: 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗔𝗪

In our stand for a VAW-free Philippines, one truth must guide us: we are all accountable, we are all responsible.

Ms. Anna Margarita G. Nuque, Information Officer II from the IACVAWC Secretariat, showed how anyone can move from a passive bystander to a brave upstander in responding to violence across all settings.

Because in the face of VAW, silence is complicity; intervention is mandatory.

She closed her session at the “ ? Youth Got This!” Forum by asking the participants to make this commitment their own: “I can speak up. I can step in. I can seek help. I can help end VAW.”

Ready to be an upstander? Take action now!
