There are chapters in our history that are painful to remember, but far more dangerous to forget. as the beginning of an era marked by the suppression of freedoms, grave human rights violations, and the concentration and abuse of power. The stories of those who were detained, tortured, disappeared, silenced, and whose lives were forever changed must never be reduced to distant memories.

May we never reach a point where the suffering of the past becomes something we dismiss, romanticize, or forget. The freedoms we enjoy today were not guaranteed by the passage of time, they were defended by people who refused to remain silent in the face of oppression. For that we bear the duty to never allow that era of pain from happening ever again.
