Panday Sining Malate, alongside Panday Sining Rektikano and Panday Sining Optik, perform a poem and an acoustic rendition of Kawayanan by Ericson Acosta for a fishing community in Bulacan.

During the chaptersโ€™ integration, the membership witnessed the struggles of the fisherfolk in the area, and participated in their production as well. Polluted waters, little to no profit during daily trawling, restrictions on fishing sites they used to freely work on, and heavy militarization are just some of the trials this community endures. The fisherfolk that depend on these waters are blatantly faced with violence from San Miguel Corporation, who continue to desecrate the area. Despite these deterrents, the fisherfolk courageously continue the struggle against environmentally harmful land reclamation, and the struggle to reclaim their waters and livelihood.

Panday Sining Malate invites the youth to contribute and participate in the fight against the reclamation of Manila Bay. Students and artists must also tread the path of struggle and hardship along with the fisherfolk, workers and farmers, until we reach the victory of the people's democratic revolution.

STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIANS!

Today, we express our solidarity with the Palestinian people: honoring their courage, resilience, and unwavering steadfastness. The Filipino people commonly experience the effects of imperialism: poverty, displacement, and violence at the hands of state forces. Because of these shared experiences, we understand the strength it takes to continue fighting for justice.

May this solidarity remind us that every person deserves true freedom and a peaceful future.

REBOLUSYON NI BONIFACIO, ISULONG MO BAGONG TIPO!

This upcoming November 30, we celebrate the 162nd birthday of G*t. Andres Bonifacio: the injustices he resisted against the Spaniards during the Philippine Revolution is what we the youth still experience today. Although, the revolution he began remains incomplete, that the U.S. occupation that followed Spanish rule was exploitative, it also transformed Philippine society in ways that reshaped our social and economic conditions. Many of the problems rooted in our past still persist, yet the conditions in which we fight them have changed.

Today, the injustice we experience is shown in many forms. Activists are silenced through red-tagging forums and subpoenas issued by the PNP. Urban poor and peasant communities are subjected to militarization and surveillance disguised as โ€œsecurity.โ€ The 99% face worsening hardships as prices of basic commodities continue to rise. Not every politician involved in the flood control scandal has been put behind bars. These are not isolated issues, they form part of a rotten system that thrives on fear, impunity, and the suppression of peopleโ€™s rights.

Amid this political repression, democracy has weakened. Freedom of expression, right to assembly, and dissent are under attack. And the people fighting for justice: peasants, workers, Indigenous communities, and environmental defenders, are branded criminals or terrorists treated as threats rather than citizens who have basic rights.

Many of the same problemsโ€”economic injustice, foreign interference, and social inequality persist. There is now an opportunity to carry forward the revolutionary through a national-democratic viewpoint: to envision a Philippine society not controlled by oligarchs and foreign interests, but by genuine sovereignty, social justice, and equality. This is a real alternative to the rotten system.

If Bonifacio were alive today, he would surely be proud of the youth and ordinary Filipinos who stand up against injustice, inequality, and exploitationโ€”those who believe that true freedom and democracy are worth fighting for.

Around 300 families in Banana Island, Intramuros are facing an unjust demolition today, November 26, 2025. With residents allegedly given 3 days of warning before the demolition of their homes set to be done at 3AM in the morning.

Panday Sining Malate condemns the Intramuros Administration's (IA) wrongful and illegal procedure, where there was no ample time given to the locals to vacate the area (which by standard is 90 days), nor was there any presented Notice of Demolition, as well as no consultation with the community whether it is within their means to relocate.

According to various residents of Banana Island, the promised relocation area of Intramuros authorities are of sub-standard infrastructure and utility, with plenty of the houses having no electricity, water, sinks, toilets, nor a proper foundation. Furthermore, Morong, Rizalโ€”the relocation areaโ€”is reportedly far from schools, marketplaces, and healthcare.

The burdened families question whether it is even possible to sustainably survive as it seems they are "back-to-zero" with no funds to kickstart their livelihoods again.

Panday Sining Malate, together with Lasallian students, held a placard making in preparation for the Vito Cruz Walkout on November 21. With each brush stroke paints one clear message: An end to corruption, and a hope for a more colorful future for each and every one of us. We see that when the youth unite through making collective art, creativity becomes our own ground.

Tama na, sobra na. Walkout na!

WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILS ITS STUDENTS, THE STUDENTS MUST STAND UP.

We as Lasallians and Benildeans can no longer endure the corruption and disregard for ordinary citizens. We refuse to stay silent while there is still injustice. We call out abuse, and we demand a future that values dignity, accountability, and genuine change for the Philippines.

We managed to mobilize in hundreds last October 3rd. We have done it before, and we can do it again.

As long as there is still ongoing corruption, our voices must and will continue to rise and call out.

Today, November 21 at 11:30AM, let us flood the streets of Vito Cruz with our calls. Let us show that there is strength in numbers, and that our generation that chooses to take action cannot be ignored. We will not accept a future shaped by a broken system.

KABATAAN, PAG-ASA NG BAYAN!

20/11/2025

Panday Sining Malate spent the day pasting stickers and posters for tomorrowโ€™s all-Vito Cruz Walkout on November 21, calling everyone to show up and demand accountability. The walls and pillars are lined with bold prints saying โ€œVito Cruz, Walkout Against Corruptionโ€, a clear push for the whole student body to stand together, speak out, and hold those responsible accountable.

Tama na, sobra na. Vito Cruz, walkout na!

Itโ€™s no secret that Benildeโ€™s administration is a looming repressive force on its own students. Despite how many slogans and campaigns they perfume themselves with, it becomes quite dangerous when a prospective student gets the idea that Benilde is truly an inclusive institution.

I was invited to be a part of Ad Astraโ€™s photoshoot on Benildean student activists to be posted on International Studentsโ€™ Day. I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise the call against student repression, and to strengthen the campaign on Benildeansโ€™ objection on the fascist attacks of the state, especially on a fellow Benildean student, Aldrin Kitsune.

Yesterday, I was informed by an Ad Astra member who was part of the team that did the shoot that they were told to ๐—–๐—˜๐—ก๐—ฆ๐—ข๐—ฅ part of my placard that says โ€œHands Off Aldrinโ€. The publication itself was frustrated and tried to defend its approval, but to no avail, was not approved by the SPU head. The reason being that Aldrinโ€™s case occurred outside campus premises, and that it was not publicized. I beg to disagree with the latter part, when Aldrinโ€™s case is covered by other publications and even made public by Aldrin himself.

A quote I often refer to in instances of press censorship is by NUJP:

One of the Benildean core values is being socially responsible. There is an irony, the adminโ€™s continuous cases of student repression directly negates this. It is not socially responsible to use security guards as instruments of instilling repression. It is not socially responsible to apprehend members of Panday Sining Malate for engaging in the walkout. It is not socially responsible to censor the student press. If the student handbook heeds us to practice this value outside the campus, then it is hypocritical to disregard Aldrin on the basis of his actions being a non-campus affair.

The essence of the shoot was to celebrate International Studentsโ€™ Day. If we remember its historical context, Their struggle for liberation is tied to the Filipino youthโ€™s own fight for national democracy. The youth are important in advancing the struggle, and we prove ourselves capable of it as well. The mass arrests of youth during the September 21 protests, and the subpoenaing of multiple student leaders, which includes Aldrin, are evidence that the state is actively targeting the youth to maintain its economic and political power. The neoliberal institution is merely an extension of the Philippinesโ€™ social reality, and a direct ideological apparatus of the state. We shouldn't allow our institution to ๐—•๐—˜๐—–๐—ข๐— ๐—˜ an instrument of fascism. This is a call for the Benildean body to ๐—ช๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ž๐—ข๐—จ๐—ง, against the widespread student repression and state fascism. This is a challenge to the Benildean administration, stop using your educators as mouthpieces for repression and uphold your labels of being an inclusive institution. If Benilde still genuinely believes in their free-to-be campaign, this must be effectively practiced, especially in its treatment of the student press and publications.
