In this lovely month of February—we feature a Filipino household name known by all, Dioscorea alata or the beloved Ube. 🪻
Known for its sweet nutty flavor and purple hue, this childhood delicacy originated in Southeast Asia, specifically around the Philippines. It has also started to make waves to the rest of the world, either as a stand-alone dessert or an addition to your meals, most common being the Ube Halaya jam.
However, the rising demand of Ube globally has caused pressure to our local farmers to continuously produce outputs of the purple yam, ending up in an entire harvest sellout after export or let’s just say “The Ube Fever disparity.” 🌧️
As we enjoy our cultural plant in all its forms, let us not forget to provide love and support to our Filipino farmers and their supply chains who work tirelessly to distribute this to us to honor our cultural heritage. 💜
