This grant is designed to empower aspiring journalists by providing them with the necessary skills, resources, and opportunities to excel in their field. It recognizes that journalism is not just about reporting the news, but also about serving the informational needs and aspirations of local communities. "The role of information and communication in addressing many of the emerging critical problems of the community and the nation."

This perspective is reflected in the community report of scholar Fayzah Inshirah Alonto Ala, whose first piece focuses on Marawi, a city of significant demographic importance, particularly in its post-conflict context following the 2017 siege. In her report, Fayzah examines the transitory temporary shelters in Marawi to gain a deeper understanding of the living conditions of affected residents, highlighting the realities faced by communities in recovery.
