In this moment, the PMMA Alumni Association, Inc. (PMMAAAI) mourns the passing of Chief Engineer Dick Hardy B. Lazo.

Born on 10 September 1977, Chief Engineer Lazo passed away on 25 August 2026.

Throughout his life and career, he dedicated himself to the maritime profession, leaving behind a meaningful legacy among his colleagues, friends, fellow mariners, and the many people whose lives he touched.

His passing is deeply felt by the maritime community. As his family and loved ones navigate through this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences, prayers, and strength to them.

With deepest respect, the PMMA Alumni Association, Inc. offers its sincerest sympathies to the family of Chief Engineer Lazo.

THE LONG BLUE LINE

A Flag of Honor, Memory, and Brotherhood

As part of a new tradition of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMMAAAI), the PMMA Alumni Flag is respectfully rendered and entrusted to the family of a departed alumnus as a final symbol of honor and remembrance from the brotherhood he leaves behind.

For the bereaved family, the flag is more than a memorial keepsake. It represents a lifetime connection to the Academy, to fellow alumni, and to the values, traditions, and friendships that helped shape their loved one. It serves as a reminder that while his voyage in this life has ended, his place in the PMMA family remains.

The presentation of the Alumni Flag carries another important message: the family of a departed alumnus remains part of our extended PMMA family. The bonds formed through shared traditions, sacrifice, service, and friendship do not end with one's final voyage.

For classmates and fellow alumni, the flag is a reminder of the Long Blue Line—the generations of PMMA men and women connected by a common heritage. We may serve aboard different ships, pursue different professions, and live in different parts of the world, but we remain united by the Academy that brought us together.

Through this tradition, PMMAAAI seeks to ensure that every departed alumnus is remembered with dignity, honor, and gratitude, and that every bereaved family knows that they do not stand alone in remembering their loved one.

The Alumni Flag is therefore rendered not simply as a farewell, but as a solemn expression of respect, gratitude, remembrance, and continuing brotherhood.

Your voyage may have ended, but your legacy sails on.

Forever remembered.
Forever part of the Long Blue Line.
Forever PMMA.

May this tradition strengthen the bond among generations of PMMA alumni and remind us that the Long Blue Line does not end—it continues through the families, friends, classmates, and shipmates we leave behind.

In this moment, the PMMAAAI mourns the passing of Engr. Ramon Q. Jose from PMMA Class of 1978.

Engr. Jose served as a Marine Engineer for over 40 years and had served much of his career with TSM Maritime Services.

His name will be remembered not only by his friends and family, but also by the many people he met throughout his life in the Academy and the maritime industry. As moving forward is never easy, we extend our heartfelt wishes and strength to his loved ones who have lost a great man.

With deepest respect, the PMMAAAI offers its condolences to his family during this difficult time.

This will help cover snacks, drinks, meeting materials, venue requirements, and other reasonable related expenses. No contribution applies to online/virtual attendees.
