Break the Fake Movement (BTFM) attended the Department of Education (DepEd) Partners' Appreciation Program with the theme “Partnerships that Endure. Reforms that Last,” held yesterday, May 8, 2026, at the Mandaluyong City College of Science and Technology.

BTFM, represented by one of its Master Trainers, Mr. Mark William Dostilla, was among the partner organizations that received a plaque of appreciation in recognition of its outstanding support in the delivery of quality education through its programs and initiatives, particularly in Media and Information Literacy and AI Literacy.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara highlighted in his keynote address that education is a shared mission, emphasizing the importance of these partnerships among stakeholders from the government, private sector, diplomatic missions, and international organizations. He also expressed his gratitude to more than 200 partners for their continued support in advancing education reforms across the country.

“Our partnership with each one of you is a continuous crossing. It meets the learner in doubt, the teacher in transition, and the community in need. And with each step, it changes direction... Indeed, education is a shared mission. And nation-building begins when we choose to work together,” Angara said.

Furthermore, BTFM expressed its appreciation for being part of the network of partners supporting education reform in the Philippines, reaffirming its commitment to promoting media and information literacy and combating disinformation through programs and initiatives.

FIMI or Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference is a coordinated effort, madalas galing sa foreign actors na gumagamit ng impormasyon (tama man o mali) para impluwensyahan ang public opinion, lalo na sa social at political issues. Hindi ito simpleng fake news lang; planned at strategic ito, gamit ang networks of accounts, targeted messaging, at minsan automation para mas mabilis kumalat at mas maraming maabot na tao.

Ang FIMI ay hindi random posts lang, may clear agenda ito. Gumagamit ng misleading or emotionally charged content, at may specific audience na tina-target. Kaya importante na maging mapanuri: alamin kung saan galing ang info, sino ang nakikinabang, at huwag basta magpadala sa nakikita online. 🧠💡

Every May 3, we observe World Press Freedom Day, a reminder of the importance of a free and independent press in keeping the public informed and aware—by reporting the truth, holding those in power accountable, and providing accurate information that people can rely on.

In today’s digital age, the spread of fake news and disinformation has worsened due to increased dissemination through AI-generated and manipulated content, which continues to distort truth. As these become more realistic and accessible, it becomes harder to distinguish what is real and what is not, leading to declining trust in the press and media.

Break The Fake Movement continues to advocate for press freedom and truth by combating disinformation through programs that promote Media and Information Literacy and AI Literacy, helping Filipinos become more critical and responsible in consuming and sharing information. We can support a free press by empowering a more informed society, both in offline and digital spaces. ✨

Ang AI ay sadyang ginawa para mapagaan at mapadali ang ilang gawain ng tao—mula sa simpleng search, paggawa ng content, hanggang sa pag-organize ng impormasyon. Ngunit kapag ito’y inaabuso o ginagamit nang hindi responsable, maaari itong magdulot ng maling impormasyon, dependency, at unti-unting pagkawala ng critical thinking skills.

On March 12, 2026, we held a free online learning session in partnership with Break the Fake Movement, held for over 300 participants on March 12, 2026.

The session aimed to equip NGO staff with insights on introducing AI to communities and concluded with the “AI for Social Good” module, which presented real-world examples of how digital technology has been used to create social impact.
