FREEMASONRY NATION BUILDERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION

Freemasonry in the Philippines earned the name โ€œNation Buildersโ€ because many of our heroes such as Rizal, Bonifacio, Aguinaldo, Mabini, Quezon, Palma and others used Masonic values to shape the idea of a free Filipino nation. The principles of Liberty Equality and Fraternity were not just words they were lived during the Revolution.

Today the challenge is different.
Instead of building a nation from foreign rule modern Filipino Masons are called to repair the moral foundations of a country struggling with corruption.

From Revolutionaries to the Establishment
Before Masons stood outside power to challenge it. Now many Masons are inside the halls of power in government military and business. This reality creates tension.

How do you uphold Masonic morality in a system where padrino and utang na loob often conflict with honesty and merit.

Brotherly Love and Public Trust
Brotherly Love is a core Masonic value but it must never become an excuse for favoritism. True brotherhood does not mean protecting a Brotherโ€™s wrongdoing. It means holding him accountable and guiding him back to the right path.

The Working Tools Against Corruption
Freemasonry teaches morality through symbols not slogans.
The Square reminds us to act honestly and fairly with no hidden deals and no shortcuts.

The Compasses teach self restraint just because you can abuse power does not mean you should.

The Plumb calls us to stand upright even when others bend the rules.

The Level reminds us that no one is above the law regardless of rank or position.

These tools are meant to shape not buildings but character.

Filipino Masons Who Lived the Principles
Jose Abad Santos chose death over collaboration with occupiers walking the Plumb to the end.

Rafael Palma served with integrity and died poor but honorable living by the Square.

Manuel L. Quezon fought for equality and independence meeting the people on the Level.

Apolinario Mabini taught that freedom begins with inner integrity not laws alone.

They remind us that Masonry is not about titles it is about choices.

Accountability Within the Craft
Freemasonry in the Philippines does not excuse corruption. Acts of graft abuse of power or unethical conduct are considered Unmasonic Conduct and are subject to Masonic trial suspension or expulsion separate from but aligned with civil law.

A Mason who betrays public trust does not only answer to the courts he answers to the Craft.

The Nation Builder Today
The modern Mason is not fighting colonizers. He is fighting internal decay greed silence and moral compromise.

To preserve the honor of the Fraternity every Mason must remember

Brotherly Love is not protection of wrongdoing.
It is the courage to correct it.

Being a Nation Builder today means choosing integrity especially when it costs something.

Grand Master Mendoza Institutes Ranaw Chapter No. 136

This past weekend, the Honorable Grand Master Raymund Joseph Ian โ€œRajiโ€ O. Mendoza, together with his delegation, concluded an official visit to the DeMolay Region of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, marking a significant series of developments for the Order of DeMolay in Mindanao.

The visit included the formal institution of Ranaw Chapter No. 136, Order of DeMolay, situated in the tranquil and elevated municipality of Amai Manabilang, Lanao del Sur. Sponsored by the distinguished officers and members of Omar Manabilang Masonic Lodge No. 471, F.&A.M., the establishment of this Chapter reflects their steadfast commitment to supporting youth leadership and the enduring principles of the Order.

The Grand Master likewise conducted an official visit to Tomas L. Cabili Chapter No. 13 in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, one of the oldest and most active Chapters in the country where the chartering of its Court of Chevaliers and Priory was formally undertaken.

In addition, the Philippine DeMolay Leadership Academy (PDLA) facilitated comprehensive training sessions for new members and Advisors, further strengthening leadership development, organizational preparedness, and adherence to the core values of the Order.

Wilson Chapter No. 21, Order of DeMolay the oldest Chapter in the DeMolay Region to commemorate its charter anniversary alongside Gen. John Joseph T. Pershing Priory No. 5, Order of Knighthood, and Zamboanga DeMolay Alumni Chapter No. 3.

The event stood as a testament to unity and heritage within the DeMolay community, marked by solemn ceremonies and meaningful recognitions.

One of the highlights was the investiture of more than 20 new Chevaliers by the ZamBaSulTa Court of Chevaliers No. 17, symbolizing the growing strength and commitment of the Order in the region. The Honorable Grand Master also conferred Medals of Appreciation to distinguished stakeholders who have rendered invaluable service and support to the DeMolay cause.

A historic moment unfolded with the presentation of the Legion of Honor Preceptory Letters Temporary, named after the late Jose R. Luna, a devoted Chapter Dad and lifelong DeMolay supporter, and a Master Mason of Mt. Apo Masonic Lodge No. 45. The ceremony was made even more meaningful as it was witnessed by the children of the Preceptoryโ€™s namesake, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all DeMolays and the Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay, for honoring their patriarchโ€™s legacy.

In a celebration of renewed commitment and brotherhood, 13 new Frank S. Land Fellows were also welcomed into the fold. With an impressive ritual exemplification led by Brother Master Councilor John Anthony B. Daรฑo, James J. Wilson Chapter No. 21 not only celebrated its anniversary but also opened the path toward its 50th year milestone next year.

Adding to the grandeur of the event, 26 Senior Knights received the Degree of Ebon during the Investiture Ceremony of the Chivalric Senior Knight, conducted in the morning under the guidance of the Grand Priory of the Philippines.

The Honorable Grand Master and the Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay extend their deepest appreciation to Legionnaire Tymothy T. Chua, Executive Officer of Region IX-B, and his dedicated team for their unwavering support and leadership throughout the six-day official visit covering the islands of Sulu and Basilan.

Among them is Hon. Past Grand Master Edward Y. Chua, who presently serves as the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry in the Philippines, the Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Grand Secretary of DeMolay Philippines, a true testament to the Chapterโ€™s legacy of leadership and excellence.

This historic event was not only a leadership transition but a reaffirmation of the organizationโ€™s commitment to building character and leadership among young men.

Honoring Filial Love: The "Motherโ€™s Pride" Song Becomes Part of DeMolay Tradition

In a historic and heartfelt move, the Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay of the Republic of the Philippines, has formally enshrined the Motherโ€™s Prideโ€ song as part of the official ceremonial proceedings of every DeMolay Chapter and Knighthood Priory across the country. This decree not only celebrates a beautiful tradition but reinforces a virtue central to the Order Filial Love.

A Legacy of Parental Involvement

From the earliest days of DeMolay, the organization has provided ways for parents especially mothers to become more than just silent supporters. Their involvement through Mothers' Clubs and Parentsโ€™ Clubs has proven essential to the strength, growth, and heart of every Chapter. These clubs, working hand in hand with Advisory Councils, have provided unwavering support in the development of DeMolay members and have become trusted allies in the pursuit of the organizationโ€™s mission.

A Song That Speaks to the Soul

Composed in 1975 by the late Mom Aurora โ€œIndayโ€ P. Paรฑares, โ€œMotherโ€™s Prideโ€ captures the spirit of a motherโ€™s love and the aspirations she holds for her son. A proud member of the Wadih C. Saab Chapter No. 16 Mothersโ€™ Club in Cagayan De Oro City, Mom Inday wrote this song not just as a tribute, but as a lasting message for every DeMolay to strive toward becoming a man his mother can be proud of.

Region X-A: Where the Tradition Lives On

For years, DeMolay Chapters in Region X-A have been singing โ€œMotherโ€™s Prideโ€ during closing ceremonies, installations, degree conferrals, and other public events. This practice has stirred emotional resonance and deepened the bond between members and their families, especially mothers.

In recognition of this powerful tradition, Grand Master Raymund Joseph Ian O. Mendoza has issued an edict on June 21, 2025, during the celebration of the 50th Charter Anniversary of Wadih C. Saab Chapter No. 16, formally incorporating the song into official proceedings across all DeMolay jurisdictions in the Philippines.

What the Edict Declares

Under the amended Article 24 of the Statutes, it is now required that:

โ€œMembers of each DeMolay Chapter and Knighthood Priory will sing the โ€˜Motherโ€™s Prideโ€™ song before the exit of officers as part of the closing ceremony of monthly stated meetings, installation ceremonies, conferral of degrees and other DeMolay public events in recognition of DeMolayโ€™s undying love for their mothers.โ€

This move underscores the essential role of mothers in shaping the lives of DeMolays and upholding the core values of the Order.

Dissemination and Compliance

Executive Officers, Chapter Advisors, and leaders across the DeMolay network are directed to teach the song to all petitioners, Active DeMolays, Senior DeMolays, and Past Active members. Official lyrics, piano sheet music, and a performance video featuring members from various Region X-A chapters have been included in the edict for guidance and uniformity.

A Song to Live By

More than just a melody, Motherโ€™s Pride is a declaration of character. It reminds each DeMolay to walk with honor, live with purpose, and reflect the virtues their mothers taught them. As it echoes through the halls of meetings and installations, it becomes more than a song it becomes a ritual of remembrance, respect, and resolve.

Final Note

This edict takes immediate effect and is set to be ratified during the next Supreme Council session. It is a testament to the enduring impact of family, tradition, and love in the life of a DeMolay. As we move forward, may the words of Motherโ€™s Pride guide our actions and warm the hearts of every mother who hears her son sing it with pride.
