Meets every First Thursday of the month at 6:30PM, Scottish Rite Temple, Taft. HISTORY
THE CONCEPT
It was at the eve of the installation of Lake Lanao Lodge No. 227, MSU Campus, Marawi City and the coronation of MW JAIME Y. GONZALES as Sultan A Papandayan sa Pilimpinas in March 2008 when Maranao Masons gathe
red together with the brethren from Manila at the Marawi Resort Hotel in Marawi City and informally discussed the idea of spreading the teachings of Freemasonry to qualified and deserving Muslims who are residing outside of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Fahad Al-Rashid S. Omarbasha S. Amer G. Lucman, Jr., VW Samuel A. Laus, DDGM, WB Francis E. Blanco, Bro. Wilfredo E. Baltazar, to name a few and some of the members of Lake Lanao Lodge No. 227. There were also few non-Masons present like Sultan AgaKhan S. Lucman and his relatives, some of who are doing business in Metro Manila and desirous to seek admission into the Fraternity. Such an idea can be achieved by putting up Lodges in Metro Manila and elsewhere in the archipelago. There was an agreement. The idea was, however, temporarily shelved owing to the proponents preoccupied with their respective vocations and occupations. Some time after the constitution of Radjah Indarapatra Lodge No. 387 in May 2009, the idea of forming a Lodge in Metro Manila was laid upon the table once more. Gradually, the brethren led by the LUCMAN siblings have finally put the design upon the trestle board. A petition to form a lodge was drafted and other requirements were prepared. The naming of the proposed Lodge was left to the discretion of the LUCMANS. THE BIRTH OF SULTAN HAROUN AL-RASHID M. LUCMAN MEMORIAL LODGE
An organizational meeting led by VW Amerhassan G. Lucman, PDDGM was held on September 20, 2010 at the Squared Palutuan, Macapagal Ave., Pasay City to formally organize a Masonic Lodge in the City of Manila and agreed that SULTAN HAROUN AL-RASHID M. LUCMAN MEMORIAL LODGE will be the name of the proposed lodge. In another meeting held at the Gerry’s Grill Restaurant, Davao City on April 28, 2011 the brethren requested WB Wilfredo E. Baltazar, Worshipful Master of Saigon Lodge No. 188 under Masonic District NCR-D to sponsor the proposed lodge. The composition of its Chartered Members and by-laws were also discussed. The brethren agreed that every first (1st) Thursday of the month and the Stafford Hall, Scottish Rite Temple, Taft Ave., Manila will be the official time and place of the Stated Meeting. VW Amerhassan G. Lucman, Junior Grand Lecturer for Northern Luzon, VW Fahad Al-Rashid S. Lucman, District Grand Lecturer of MD NCR-D and VW Amer G. Lucman, Jr., District Deputy Grand Master of MD R-I & CAR-B was recommended by the brethren to be the PETITION CHARTER MASTER, SENIOR AND JUNIOR WARDEN, respectively. He informed the brethren that as of May 4, 2011, SAIGON LODGE NO. 188 and VW ROLAND FYL CHAN, District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District NCR-D formally recommended the formation of SULTAN HAROUN AL-RASHID M. LUCMAN MEMORIAL LODGE under MD NCR-D to the Most Worshipful Juanito P. Abergas, Grand Master of Masons in the jurisdiction of the Philippines. A Petition for a Dispensation to form a New Lodge composing of Seventy (70) Master Masons in Good Standing of the different lodges within the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines were submitted to the MW Juanito P. Abergas, Grand Master on June 21, 2011 requesting a date for the institution of SULTAN HAROUN AL-RASHID M. LUCMAN MASONIC LODGE U.D. at the most convenient time. Attached to the letter were documents to comply with the requirements in organizing a new lodge especially of Edict No. 186-A Razon and Edict No. 248 Abergas at the City of Manila, NCR. Many Lodges under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge Free & Accepted Masons of the Philippines were named after deceased worthy brother Master Masons. Others were named after the place where the Lodge is located. Still others were named to commemorate ones who have done extra-ordinary deeds for the welfare of the Filipino people in general and a community of people in particular. To the latter belonged Sultan Haroun M. Al-Rashid Lucman. The late Haroun Al-Rashid M. Lucman was the Sultan of Bayang, Lanao del Sur and the first unprecedented Paramount Sultan of Mindanao. He was born in the year 1924 and lived until 1984 during his exile in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was once elected Congressman representing the Province of Lanao del Sur. In 1983, he helped Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. circumvent an order from Manila forbidding Aquino the issuance of a passport; Sultan Lucman obtained a passport for Aquino with the name "Marcial Bonifacio" ("Marcial" referring to martial law, and "Bonifacio" for Fort Bonifacio, where Aquino had previously been imprisoned). He was recognized in November 30, 2006 by the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation as a MARTYR/HERO in the struggle against martial law and engraved his name on the Wall of Remembrance for his moral valor in fighting for the cause of the Muslim people in Mindanao in particular and the Filipino people in general during the dark years of the Martial Rule; for his munificence to the stranded pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia using funds for the sale of his for 800 hectare plantation after the failure of negotiations to avail themselves of government help in the rescue effort; for his courage to seek justice for the victims and survivors of the government-sanctioned Jabidah Massacre; for his unstinting support and bravery in the nationalist cause of the Filipino people here and abroad, among others. Though not a Mason, the late Sultan Haroun Al-Rashid M. Lucman during his lifetime consistently exhibited his love and fear of God, love of country, love of neighbors, strongly sought justice for his people, assisted the downtrodden and many virtues worth emulating. In memory of Sultan Haroun Al-Rashid M. Lucman, a masonic lodge, SULTAN HAROUN AL-RASHID M. LUCMAN MASONIC LODGE, was organized.
