On site emergency health care is non-existent in our country. When a person is met with an accident anywhere and is critically injured, his life would be dependent upon his resources at that time. It has always been a comforting thought that no matter how tragic their circumstances are, there's almost always someone whom they can turn to. Someone who can give their strength back and pull them out
of their agony. is that 'someone' that seeks to make a difference in the lives of our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Lingkod E.R. - UST is a university-wide organization of the University of Santo Tomas geared towards humanitarian and charitable activities in order to grant financial support to patients in need in the emergency room of its adopted institution, UST Hospital - Clinical Division. BRIEF HISTORY:
Upon seeing patients admitted at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) with only coins to pay their hospital bills, a Thomasian doctor dreamt and sought to change this status quo. And because of that dream, Lingkod ER was brought to life back in 1997. Before Lingkod ER was brought to UST, it started back at the University of the Philippines-Manila, where Dra. Luisa Ticzon took up her pre-med course. After taking her pre-med, Ticzon transferred to UST to pursue medical studies. Along with her transfer, she brought the cause of Lingkod ER to the auspices of the University. Despite starting with only 10 members at her class in UP, including Ticzon herself, it now boasts of more than 200 student members in UST alone. Lingkod ER has expanded its efforts by establishing a chapter in the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital, Quirino Memorial Medical Center and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Hospital in Bacolod City in order to meet the needs of other poor patients brought to their respective charity emergency rooms.
