A multi-generational learning team, the HEALTH Plus Management Team, spent 34 meaningful hours together in Baguio.
We stayed at Casa Juana, a beautiful and elegant four-bedroom home. We walked together from the bus terminal to the house, cooked our own meals, hiked to Burnham Park, climbed the steps at Wright Park, posed for posterity in front of The Mansion, enjoyed merienda at Choco-late de Batirol in Camp John Hay, and ended with a family photo by The Manor’s iconic fireplace.
More than the places we visited, it was in these shared moments that we discovered one another’s individual tendencies, strengths, and personal journeys.
Through our experiences, self-reflection, and honest feedback, we arrived at three team norms that will guide us moving forward:
1. Listen and understand what is being communicated.
2. Stay focused. Respond to the issue at hand in a timely manner and avoid shifting the conversation by introducing a different issue.
3.Have the courage to take responsibility for the consequences of one’s words and actions.
While taking initiative is not yet a shared core value, we were encouraged to see many team members already demonstrating it through their actions.
34 hours, 3 norms, knowing each other better, and simply enjoying one another’s company—these were the take-home lessons of our team-building exercise.
Everyone returned home with satisfaction in body, mind, and spirit, carrying with them meaningful memories and a stronger sense of belonging.
And as a fitting ending to our journey, our bus lost its air conditioning on the trip home, and we were unexpectedly upgraded to Royal Class. We took it as a little bonus—and perhaps a reminder that good things sometimes come to those who do things right.Minerva P. MolonMahintana Foundation, Inc.Rosalie Cortez Valencia@
