Imagine waking up to a world where our most cherished wildlife has vanished... forever. 💔🍃

Sadly, this is happening right now as many species slowly disappear—often without attention—driven by human activities, habitat destruction, and other mounting environmental threats. But there is still good news: we can change the ending to this story! 🪄✨

In commemoration of 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 (𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟱), let's turn awareness into action.

Today, we celebrate 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, reminding us that every living species has a purpose, and each plays a vital role in keeping our ecosystems alive. Wildlife contributes to thriving forests, stable climates, and the natural balance that sustains life on Earth.

With these, we must also confront the decisions that continue to shape its future. Throughout the Philippine archipelago, forests and wildlife continue to face growing threats, from deforestation that causes habitat loss, pollution that contaminates ecosystems, climate change, illegal wildlife trade, and 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩. 💔 Conservation isn't only the responsibility of scientists and environmental organizations. It also begins with 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 and 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚'𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 to research and protect what cannot speak for itself.

We can no longer accept the destruction of our environment as the price of "progress." Progress for whom, and at what cost? The city isn't just home to people, it's a shared ecosystem. From birds perched on electric wires and butterflies visiting garden blooms to bats flying through the night, many animals have adapted to life right alongside us. 🐦🦋🦇

𝙐𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙣 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 reminds us that urban areas can be shared spaces where both humans and animals thrive. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧—whether it's protecting green spaces, disposing of waste properly, or respecting wildlife helps create a safer environment for all.

Don't know what to do when you get bitten or scratched by a community cat? It's understandable to feel this way but let that tension go and let's take care of it together one paw at a time.

Keep in mind that the first step is to 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 it to the closest security guard at the PUP, they will instruct you on what should you do and may keep track of your situation❗️

Do not forget how important the second step is and that is to give first 𝗔𝗜𝗗 to your wound, wash it thoroughly with soap and rinse it with running water. Once that's done, you should go to the clinic or hospital immediately to get yourself an anti-rabies shot 💉

And the third and last step that you should follow is to learn from it and 𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗗 getting too close to community cats.

Bear in mind that even animals have their own boundaries, respect their space, and most importantly, 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙙𝙢𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 🐱🫶

Our furry friends have been part of the campus community that exist in different zones of the university. As students and animal lovers, there are instances where we want to pet or give them food as we encounter them within the university premises. However, through the 𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (Kunin • Kapon • Balik), these actions that most students would think of as harmless, are strictly prohibited! This program implements the ‘𝗡𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗡𝗼 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴’ 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 for cats and dogs across the campus. 🐈‍⬛🚫🐕

The policy includes prohibiting the students, faculty, and school staff from petting the animals to prevent potential harm and injuries for both parties. 𝗡𝗢 𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚! Taming encourages them to leave their territories, leading to dependence on humans, which makes them lose their natural animal instincts. Moreover, tamed resident animals face the high risk of being abused or harmed by others.

The latter part of the policy also mentioned the restriction of feeding them, specifically human food. Human food lacks the necessary nutrients for cats and dogs and contains numerous ingredients that can pose risks to their health. Community animals are being fed by an assigned feeder who complies with the feeding schedule and designated feeding area. This continuous routine guides them to dwell in one place. To add, it keeps other neighboring animals from encroaching.

Now that you know the reasons and to be part of the solution, adhering to these simple guidelines is a sign of big and impactful support to the program! Let’s create a safe coexistence with our campus animals! ❤️‍🩹🌟
