True Manila

True Manila True Manila is a small project supporting homeless children and families living in poverty within various communities in The Philippines. What should I bring?

We are also giving advice to people who doesn't know where to begin if they want to help in the Philippines. What does True Manila do?

- Distributes the donations arriving from all over the world. Whether it is clothing, shoes, school supplies, food or other necessities the organization will distribute these to those who need it most. If monetary donations are made, they are used to buy the afore

mentioned items, and also to pay educational fees for the children.
- Provides meals to children, purchased from local street-food booths. This then both boost’s the local initiative and nourishes the hungry.
- Implements different projects that enhance the children’s education. These projects also help to develop new interests and engage the children in activities away from street gangs. There have been plenty of projects going on since 1988. Some examples are:
• Building houses for homeless families
• Rebuilding houses for victims of fire that took place in the community
• Free haircuts
• Planting trees
• Cinemondays and cinefridays
• Family days
• Invite a kid for a month
• Extra-plate
• Happy birthday. Each of these projects has its own goal (you will be able to gain a better understanding of what each of these projects does in the near future. We are currently building our website).

- One of the most important actions taken within the charity is to ensure education for the children: the goal is to mentor the individuals who want to go to school, and develop a desire in those who have not interest. How can I contribute?

- If you are in the city of Manila and you are willing to help: please get in touch with us here or contact Edwin Nombre directly on Facebook. We will happily set up an appointment so you can join us in one of the next True Manila experiences. When coming to the community you will be travelling via the Pilipino public transport system (the jeepney). Also, in every True Manila season we walk through the local streets and feed the homeless children, buying food from local street-food stalls. Therefore, there are some expenses to be covered and as you may imagine we can’t afford to pay for it (even if we would love to). So please bring 1000 pesos with you! When joining us you will be able to buy one of our t-shirts. This is one of the main influxes of income for the organisation. It costs 400 pesos and, of course, 100% of the money goes to the community! If you want to buy the t-shirt please feel free to let us know!

- If you are far away but still want to participate you can always help through monetary donations. All proceeds received by True Manila go directly to the community; it is a strictly non-profit organization. If you wish to donate, please go to “Donations” and follow the easy steps.
