126th CGAS Malacaรฑang Supports Successful Wesleyan Blood Drive.

The 126th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron (CGAS) Malacaรฑang played a pivotal role in the success of the blood donation drive hosted by Wesleyan College of Manila.

To support the life-saving mission and the well-being of the participants, the squadron provided essential nutritional support, by donating 100 loaves of Gardenia bread, 216 packs of instant noodles and 60 pieces of hard boiled eggs to be distributed to each blood donor.

This contribution, made alongside the Philippine Coast Guard and the college community, highlights the squadron's commitment to inter-agency cooperation and its dedication to fostering civic responsibility through vital public health initiatives.

In collaboration with Coast Guard Stations Malacaรฑang and Bataan, the 124th and 106th CGAS, and the Local Government Unit of Abucay. Through the generous contributions of its officers, the squadron donated school supplies, hygiene kits, water and food items, books, and clothes to the Aeta community of Abucay, Bataan. The iCARE program also provided free medical consultations, dental services, and health education, ensuring access to essential healthcare for the benefit of the Aeta community.

The outreach program underscores the PCG and PCGAโ€™s dedication not only to maritime affairs but also to public health and welfare, especially for indigenous communities.

126th CGAS Bolsters Maritime Safety with Radar Reflector Handover

Under the direction of Squadron Director AUX CAPT MELVIN L VILLA PCGA, the 126th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron (126th CGAS) Malacaรฑang successfully turned over ten (10)radar reflector units to BRP BAGACAY (MRRV-4410). The equipment was officially received by the vesselโ€™s Commanding Officer, CDR RAFAEL C CAROLINO PCG.

Radar reflectors serve as critical safety equipment in preventing maritime collisions. In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, all vessels under 150 gross tonnage operating within high-traffic ports are required to be equipped with these reflectors. This ensures that smaller watercraft are clearly detectable by the radar systems of larger merchant ships.

Through this initiative, the 126th CGAS reaffirms its commitment to maritime safety and its ongoing mission to support and protect the seafaring community.

โš“ 126th CGAS Distributes Radar Reflectors and Grocery Packs to Fisherfolks in Mariveles, Bataan

MARIVELES, BATAAN โ€” The 126th CGAS Malacaรฑang conducted a donation and distribution activity in Brgy. Balon Anito, Mariveles, Bataan, providing radar reflectors and 100 packs of groceries to local fisherfolks through BRP SULUAN (MRRV-4406) led by the Commanding Offficer, CAPT JOMARK ANGUE PCG, in coordination with Coast Guard Station Bataan.

As part of the activity, the fisherfolks were also given a briefing on the proper use and functions of radar reflectors, highlighting their importance in increasing vessel visibility on ship radars, reducing collision risks, and improving chances of detection during emergencies at sea.

Alongside the outreach, 126th CGAS Malacaรฑang officers participated in an aboardship familiarization aboard the renowned BRP SULUAN, strengthening coordination and operational readiness between the Auxiliary and the PCG.

The 126th CGAS Malacaรฑang actively participated in the installation of artificial reefs in Mabini, Batangas, a project carried out in partnership with Honorable Noel โ€œBitricsโ€ Luistro, Mayor of Mabini. As part of its continued commitment to marine conservation and community support, the 126th CGAS Malacaรฑang donated 21 units of artificial reef structures. 126th CGAS Delivers Relief for Cebu Flood Victims

Manila, Philippines โ€” The 126th CGAS MALACAร‘ANG responded to the call of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) through Task Force Malasakit, joining CGDNCR-CL, NAMO, and CGADNCR-CL in extending aid to communities affected by flooding in Cebu.

The squadron donated hygiene kits and food items including coffee, noodles, biscuits, and canned goods as part of ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts.

Relief goods were turned over at CGDNCR-CL HEADQUARTERS for consolidation and loading onto a PCG vessel for distribution to affected communities.

CGDNRCLHQโ€” The 126th CGAS Malacaรฑang has turned over 40 units of radar reflectors to the Coast Guard District National Capital Regionโ€“Central Luzon (CGDNCR-CL) for distribution to fisherfolk in Bataan province.

The radar reflectors were formally received by Ens Aaron Mathew A Almario PCG, reprensentative of CGDNCR-CL, in coordination with CDR Michel John P Encina PCG, Commander, Coast Guard Station Bataan. The initiative aims to enhance the safety and visibility of small fishing vessels, particularly during nighttime and poor weather conditions.

Distribution of the radar reflectors will be scheduled upon the availability of BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406), a multi-role response vessel of the Philippine Coast Guard tasked to support maritime patrol, law enforcement, and humanitarian operations. The vesselโ€™s deployment will ensure the secure transport and dissemination of the equipment to designated coastal communities across Bataan.

The turnover underscores the continued partnership between the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) in promoting maritime safety and welfare among local fisherfolk.

In Defense of the World's Bravest Coast Guard ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

I have been deeply disappointedโ€”indeed, appalledโ€”to hear of recent attacks on the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard by certain prominent Filipino politicians. These attacks question the PCG's loyalty, accuse them of provocation, suggest their service should be abolished, or imply its officers are serving foreign interests rather than their nation's.

This is not merely unfair, it is a shameful slander of what I believe is demonstrably the world's bravest coast guard.

Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt captured something essential about this dynamic:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

The men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard are in the arena. Their faces are marred by the dust and sweat of strong and resolute duty in aggressively contested waters. They strive valiantly against overwhelming odds. They deserve better than the cold criticism of those seeking to earn political advantage at their expense.

To understand why these attacks ring so hollow, we must understand what the PCG actually facesโ€”and frankly, what no other coast guard on Earth routinely confronts.

The China Coast Guard, together with the People's Armed Forces Maritime Militia and under the ultimate control of the People's Liberation Army, is modern history's largest paramilitary force--one now laser-focused on eliminating the Philippines' sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea. It operates with unprecedented aggression, using its vastly superior size and numbers against a PCG--together with its equally brave Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources allies--which were purpose-built for traditional maritime safety and security roles, but have now been deployed into the breach to answer their country's moment of acute need.

CCG and militia vessels have repeatedly swarmed, blocked and rammed PCG and BFAR ships, firing powerful water cannons and blinding lasers and executed extremely dangerous maneuvers to block resupply missions operating legally on the high seas. Less than 3 months ago the BRP Suluan came mere meters from catastrophe under the bow of a PLA Navy guided missile destroyer. Yet at every turn the world's bravest coast guard has neither flinched nor failed in its duty, but has stood in the face of extreme danger with the utmost professional resolve.

Beyond asserting the Philippine sovereign rights--firmly settled and affirmed under international law--the PCG and BFAR continue to support and safeguard beleaguered Filipino fisherfolk whose livelihoods are devastated by Chinese blockades and threatened with violence and detention for merely supporting their families as they have for generations. They resupply the civilian community on Pag-Asa (Thitu) Island who have been forced to live their lives in the shadow of a menacing imperialist occupation force.

What elevates the PCG to what deserves to be legendary status has been the superb response of its crews: unwavering professionalism and restraint amid relentless provocation by a bully who desperately wants them hit back in anger so it can justify even more aggression. Against overwhelming odds and nerve-wracking danger, PCG crews have resiliently avoided retaliatory violence. Instead they calmly and meticulously document incidents, adhere to international maritime protocols, and continue their missions with disciplined resolve.

As an American deeply proud of my own country's superb coast guard, I must make an admission that comes with both humility and profound respect: the world has never witnessed a coast guard on that has routinely demonstrated the courage, resilience, devotion to duty, professionalism and restraint that the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard has displayed while standing up for their country's sovereign rights against overwhelming odds.

This is not a slight to my own nation's guardians--it is simply a fact: the PCG has been tested in the crucible and refined by its fire. It operates in circumstances no other coast guard routinely faces, and responds with a composure and integrity that sets it apart.

The PCG's work transcends politics; it's about protecting every Filipino's rights in ancestral waters. Its officers risk life and limb not for ideology or personal advancement, but for the nation. Every Filipino should feel extraordinary pride in these sentinels who stand atop its watery periphery at great personal risk and cost. They embody what I, an outsider, believe is the resilient Filipino spirit: facing adversity with courage, integrity and poise.

I make no claim to understand Filipino domestic politics. That is not my place or my purpose. But I know a little something about national service, and the character it takes to stand firm under pressure. I have known heroes and patriots, and I believe they walks among you in PCG and BFAR uniforms. When you see them, please stop and shake their hands.

The men and women of the PCG and BFAR epitomize the highest ideals of national service. They fill me with admiration, and I believe should fill every Filipino with pride.
