INSTITUTED LAY CATECHISTS FORMATION BEGINS

In response to the call of the Directory for Catechesis (2020) and Antiquum Ministerium, the Ecclesiastical Province of Lipa has begun its Formators’ Training for Candidates for Instituted Lay Catechists.

Held from November 20–22 at St. Francis de Sales Theology Seminary, Lipa City, the training was led by no less than Most Rev. Gilbert Garcera, D.D., Archbishop of Lipa, together with a dedicated team of formators in collaboration with the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis (LIEC).

This initiative marks a new moment of grace for the local Church as we strengthen the ministry of catechesis and empower those called to share the faith with renewed zeal and synodal spirit.

“Catechists should receive suitable biblical, theological, pastoral, and pedagogical training that enables them to be competent communicators of the truth of the Gospel.”
— Antiquum Ministerium, 8

📖 La Salle Reaffirms Its Commitment to the Renewal of Catechesis

The Lasallian Research Seminar 2025, held from 20 to 24 October in Rome, brought together not only experts and academic researchers but also Brothers and lay Lasallians engaged in catechetical and evangelizing missions.

The seminar highlighted various Lasallian catechetical initiatives carried out across different countries and cultural contexts — including Pakistan, Spain, Argentina, and the United States. Participants also shared significant publications and journals on catechesis such as:

📚 Sinite – from the San Pío X Institute in Madrid
📚 Segunda Línea – from the Pastoral Institute for Adolescence in Buenos Aires
📚 Sussidi per la Catechesi – from the District of Italy
📖 Bible for Young People – promoted by the Institute for Faith and Life in the United States

And proudly, our very own

Catechesis and the proclamation of the Gospel were at the heart of the Lasallian Research Seminar 2025, held in Rome from October 20 to 24. 🌍

During these days, participants explored the Lasallian catechetical project, conducted research on youth and religion, and learned about various catechetical methodologies.

🎥 Watch the video and discover more about this inspiring event!

On October 23, 2025, our very own Dr. Lysander P. Rivera gave an input on the vision, mission, and programs of the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis (LIEC) to the participants.
He was one of the resource persons and invited everyone to collaborate in advancing the Lasallian mission of evangelization and catechesis. ✨

These photographs from the 1960s document the First Communion of children at Sta. Rita Church in Baclaran, Parañaque. The catechetical preparation for this significant event was undertaken under the direction of Br. Manuel Castillo FSC and his team of professional catechists.

Br. Manuel, founder of the De La Salle University Catechetical Center—now the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis—spearheaded organized catechetical initiatives in the area.

Beyond Baclaran, the La Salle Brothers contributed extensively to catechetical work throughout Parañaque, particularly in the communities of Tambo, La Huerta, and San Dionisio.

The Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis (LIEC) extends its gratitude to the Parañaque City Tourism Office for recognizing the early Lasallian catechetical mission in the Church in the Philippines.

🕊️ Synodality in Mission

As part of the Certificate in Catechetical Leadership and Supervision 2025, participants attended the session "Synodality Formation in the Ministry of Evangelization and Catechesis" led by Dr. Estela Padilla — theologian, Synod delegate, and Executive Secretary of the FABC Office of Theological Concerns.

🌟 Rooted in Charism, Growing in Mission

As our participants continue their journey in the Certificate in Catechetical Leadership and Supervision, we are honored to share with them the inspiring legacy of our founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, the Patron Saint of Teachers.📖

Through the session "Introduction to the Life and Spirituality of St. John Baptist de La Salle," Ms. Ma. Cristina SC. Eusebio, Coordinator for Graduate School Formation Programs under the Lasallian Pastoral Office (LSPO), offered a meaningful glimpse into the life, mission, and enduring spirit of our beloved founder.

May his example of faith, service, and commitment to education continue to inspire our catechetical leaders. ✨🙏
