On June 16, 1911, the first La Salle school in the Philippines was opened in Paco, Manila.

Since then, De La Salle University has pursued the educational mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle to teach minds, touch hearts, and transform lives.

A teacher’s vocation begins in the classroom, but it lives most profoundly in the heart. It is in accompanying the young through their growth, struggles, and becoming that lives are changed.

After a full week of in-person sessions, the Certificate in Catechetical Leadership and Supervision (CCLS) 2026 has truly been an experience of grace and synodality—walking together, listening deeply, and discerning as one community of faith formators.

Beyond the lectures and discussions, what stood out was the shared journey: catechetical leaders, facilitators, and participants engaging not only the mind but also the heart of the leaders.

The Directory for Catechesis reminds us: “Catechists are called to be experts in the art of accompaniment.” This is not a static competence but a lifelong path of formation. Hence, this program challenges us to be continually honed—intellectually, pastorally, and spiritually—so that we may guide others with wisdom, sensitivity, and creative fidelity to the Gospel.

We are deeply grateful for our facilitators who are experts in theology, catechetics, pastoral ministry, as well as psychology, social communications and management—who have generously shared their knowledge and witness. Their interdisciplinary approach reflects the richness and complexity of the mission entrusted to us.

As we transition to the online phase in the coming months, the journey continues. The call remains: to grow, to accompany, and to form others in the faith with renewed zeal and competence.

Indeed, this is only the beginning.

Day 1 | Certificate in Catechetical Leadership and Supervision 2026

The program opened with a reflection on the life and spirituality of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, whose witness as a catechist and educator continues to inspire a ministry rooted in faith, service, and the formation of hearts.

Dr. Lysander Rivera, Director of LIEC, provided the opening perspective-setting, followed by a session on Synodality Formation for Catechetical Leaders facilitated by Br. Estela Padilla.

The day concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration, which also marked the Graduation of Batch 6, presided over by Msgr. Gerardo Santos.

A meaningful beginning as we continue this shared journey in formation and mission.

As violence continues to wound parts of the Middle East, the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis (LIEC) invites everyone to unite in prayer for peace.

Evangelization calls us not only to proclaim the Gospel but to witness to it through lives shaped by mercy and reconciliation. In Dilexit Nos, Pope Francis reminds us that we are loved with a love that can heal divided hearts. May our prayer be a concrete act of evangelization — trusting that Christ’s love is stronger than hatred and that a just and lasting peace is possible. 🙏

📸 Photos from the Meeting of Catechetical Leaders in the Episcopal Conference of Asia.

On February 11, 2026, a solemn Eucharistic Celebration marked the opening of the Meeting of Catechetical Leaders in the Episcopal Conference of Asia, gathering delegates from across the continent in prayer, communion, and shared mission.

The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, while the homily was delivered by the CBCP President, Abp. Gilbert Garcera.

Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC, President of De La Salle University, warmly welcomed the participants and expressed the University’s commitment to serve the Church in Asia through catechesis and evangelization.

This continental gathering was organized by the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Evangelization and Catechesis in collaboration with De La Salle University, through the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis under the leadership of its Director, Dr. Lysander Rivera.

The program is headed by the Dicastery for Evangelizatio en — Section for Fundamental Questions Regarding Evangelization in the World.

The event also responds to the call of Abp. Rino Fisichella in February 2024 during the renaming of the Lasallian Catechetical Center into an Institute—encouraging De La Salle University to host an Asian continental gathering in light of the Directory for Catechesis (2020) and Antiquum Ministerium.

May this meeting also foster ongoing collaboration with the Lasallian Institute for Evangelization and Catechesis in forming catechetical leaders from dioceses across Asia and the Pacific, strengthening the Church’s mission of evangelization in the region.
