LAKAS NGO is a non-partisan, youth-led organization promoting leadership, volunteerism, civic engagement, and youth participation. Pusong May LAKAS!

"Our greatest tragedy is not that Filipinos are resilient—it is that we have grown comfortable asking them to be. "

This National Disaster Resilience Month, Krizcel Perez, Director of Research and Advocacy Committee, takes a closer look at the idea of Filipino Resilience and asks a difficult but necessary question: When does resilience stop being strength and start becoming an expectation?

Because resilience shouldn't only mean surviving disasters. It should also signify building communities that are prepared, protected, and no longer left to endure the same hardships over and over again.

Ever wondered what a day as a LAKAS volunteer actually looks like?

Join our volunteer, Reese, as she shares a glimpse of our community engagement in Sitio Calumpit, Brgy. Macabud, Rodriguez (Montalban), Rizal last July 11, 2026.

She reminds us that serving a community begins long before we offer solutions. It begins with humility, openness, and the willingness to see the world through another person's eyes.

Every place has a story. Every story leaves us with something to carry forward.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗘𝗟𝗗 | The Beginning of Project Sibol 🌿

Last July 11, LAKAS NGO spent the day by learning, sharing, and growing alongside the community. Through storytelling session featuring 'Si Laleng at ang Lakbay-Paaralan' and interactive activities, children were encouraged to express themselves, reflect on their experiences, and continue dreaming beyond their circumstances around them.

Together with the community members, we also conducted a seminar on Community Organization as a Mindset and a Process, followed by a Community Capacity Building activity. It became a space to recognize that lasting change begins when people choose to participate, work together, and take part in shaping the future of their own community.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the officials of Barangay Macabud, led by Punong Barangay Hon. Juanito P. Catayoc, the Office of Municipal Mayor Hon. Ronnie S. Evangelista, the Office of Hon. Dahlia C. Cabio, the IPMR, and everyone who welcomed and supported this initiative. Thank you for allowing us to become part of your community, even for a day.

Because at LAKAS, we believe that the greatest strength is found in people who choose to care, to serve, and to grow together. Ang tunay na LAKAS ng pagbabago ay nagsisimula sa mga pusong handang makiisa, maglingkod, at maging bahagi ng paghubog ng mas matatag na kinabukasan.

The quiet beginning of growth. The moment a seed chooses to break through the soil despite never having seen the sun. More than sprouting, it is the courage to become.

For LAKAS, 𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙤𝙡 is more than a theme. It is a reminder that the most meaningful journeys are not measured by the distance we travel, but by the people who teach us how to listen, understand, and grow. Because communities are not places we simply visit. They are stories we are entrusted to carry, relationships we are privileged to build, and futures we choose to cultivate together.

This is why we call our Community Engagement journey 𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙤𝙡 .

Tomorrow, we take our first step toward Sitio Calumpit, Barangay Macubud, Rodriguez, Rizal, where Project SIBOL begins. A series rooted in listening before leading, learning before teaching, and growing with communities, not merely within them.

Because the greatest changes are never imposed.
They are planted.
Then nurtured.
Together.
