This issue of ๐๐๐๐-๐ญ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ highlights Philippine native trees in full bloom this summer, the ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ผ๐ด๐ผ๐ป.
The ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ผ๐ด๐ผ๐ป (๐๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ฐ๐น๐บ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ด๐ถ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฎ) is a tropical tree commonly found in lowland forests across Southeast Asia, including the Philippines. Often ๐ฑ๐๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฑ โ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ผ๐บ,โ it thrives in open and secondary forests and is among the species that naturally regenerate after environmental disturbances. As a ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ, it sheds its leaves seasonally and can grow up to ๐ฐ๐ฑ ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐น.
At the same time, Salingogon is a versatile tree. It is widely used as an ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฝ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ due to its vibrant pink, ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ผ๐บ-๐น๐ถ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐. Its ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ is valued for carving, furniture, and house construction.
Additionally, the plant is used in ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ in Laos and Vietnam, it serves as an ingredient in a herbal drink called bitter nail tea in China, and its leaves are consumed as vegetables in Thai and Lao cuisine.
๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ผ๐ด๐ผ๐ป continues to play an important role in culture. ๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ this species can be seen in conservation areas such as the ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐ป๐ด๐ถ ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ, helping preserve its presence in the wild while supporting forest restoration.
