In an urban community near the Manila Bay, environmental challenges are part of everyday life. Yet in Parola and Isla Puting Bato, residents are proving how meaningful change can begin within the neighborhood through the Eco-Patrol Project.

Now in its 13th year, the Parola Eco-Patrol Project of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) Foundation, Inc., in partnership with PBSP, continues to reinforce a shared commitment to long-term, people-centered solutions. What makes the project remarkable is not just its longevity, but the hands that bring it to life every day.

At the heart of the initiative are local volunteers and ordinary residents who have taken on the role of environmental stewards. Members conduct regular clean-up drives, promote proper waste management, and educate their neighbors on the importance of caring for their environment. Their efforts not only help reduce pollution but also instill a sense of pride and ownership.

PBSP Director for Operations Kristine Rivadelo presented PBSP’s role in advancing sustainable agriculture during the “Usapang AgriBiz” Investment Forum at the Department of Agriculture - Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (DA AMAS)’s 18th Philippine Food Expo on April 18, 2026, at the Philippine World Trade Center.

Addressing a crowd of retired OFWs turned potential agripreneurs, civil society groups and government officials and workers, she showcased PBSP as a potential partner in projects that contribute to improving the livelihood of farmers and fisherfolk and promoting ecosystem stewardship and market integration.

Sharing to the audience the programs implemented with the support of member companies and donors, she highlighted More with Less in the Philippine Coconut Industry Project (MwL).

Under MwL, PBSP is studying the viability of different business ventures as additional income opportunities for coconut farmers. This includes Biochar Production Enterprise, Young and Mature Coconut Consolidation and Trading Enterprise, Coconut Sap Production and Trading, and the Coconut Seedling Nursery and Demo Farm.

The Coconut Seedling Nursery and Demo Farm is aligned with the Philippine Coconut Authority’s (PCA) Massive Coconut Planting Program (MCPP), with a target of 100 million palms by 2028. The enterprise has been piloted in Brooke’s Point, Palawan by the Rizal Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (RFMPC) which was awarded an incentive cheque worth Php 600,000 after supplying PCA with 18,000 seedlings after only three months of being fully operational.

MwL is supported by DANIDA through the Danida Market Development Partnerships (DMDP) Program and is implemented in collaboration with Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Lionheart Farms Philippines, and BaiAni Foundation.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

PBSP, through the SHIELD Program, in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Cagayan and national government agencies, successfully conducted the Deliberation of Priority Commodity for Value Chain Analysis last April 7, 2026 at Cagayan Provincial Capitol.

Through a participatory and evidence-based workshop, stakeholders deliberated on priority commodities for VCA and resilience interventions, drawing from SHIELD, local and national development priorities. Five commodities emerged from the deliberation for further validation: aramang, dilis, mud crab, cacao, and ube.

The workshop also surfaced important discussions on data gaps, stakeholder participation, and next steps toward finalizing commodity priorities in coordination with the Provincial Vision Team.

Beyond commodity selection, the activity underscored an important message: economic planning is resilience work. In a time when economic shocks can ripple through supply chains, increase production costs, and threaten livelihoods, strengthening value chains and preparing businesses for disruptions is not only a development priority—it is a necessity.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵

PBSP and the Local Government of Arteche officially strengthened their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), reaffirming their shared commitment to improving the health and nutrition of mothers and children in Eastern Samar.

The activity gathered 92 pregnant women and women of reproductive age, together with Arteche Rural Health Unit personnel, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and community health workers at the Arteche Municipal Covered Court—demonstrating strong local support and collective action toward better health outcomes.

Following the MOA signing, participants engaged in Nutrition Education Session 1 (Batch 2) under the Maalam na MaMa series. The session emphasized the importance of the First 1,000 Days as a critical window for child development, highlighting proper maternal nutrition, safe motherhood practices, and sexual and reproductive health rights.

Pre- and post-assessments were conducted to measure knowledge gains and support behavior change tracking. Pregnant women also received antenatal testing and basic health screening, ensuring that their health status is monitored while linking them to essential services.

This initiative reflects a strong collaboration between PBSP and the LGU, combining capacity building, community engagement, and health service integration. It aims to promote informed decision-making, improve nutrition practices, and encourage early and regular use of maternal health services.

This project is funded by Karl Kübel Stiftung für Kind und Familie (KKS) and the Government of Germany (BMZ) with counterpart from PBSP supporting efforts to ensure a healthier start for every mother and child.

Arteche, Eastern Samar is part of our Zero Poverty Philippines 2030 since 2018 and is an adopted municipality of PBSP. For seven years now, PBSP has implemented projects on health, education, environment and livelihood, in strong collaboration with the LGU.

Since June 2024, PBSP has been implementing the Strengthening Inclusive Disaster Risk Governance for Climate Resilience in Asia or SIDRRA Project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) through the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

The project supports communities in building stronger and more inclusive disaster preparedness and response systems by strengthening core groups composed of youth, women, indigenous peoples (IPs), senior citizens internally displaced persons (IDPs), and persons with disability (PWDs) to take active roles in disaster risk reduction and community resilience.

After completing the leadership, community organizing, and community-based DRRM workshops organized by PBSP, core groups in Mamasapano, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, and Guindulungan, Maguindanao del Sur amped up their efforts in leading activities in their communities.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐧

PBSP conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Adaptive Planning Workshop on April 15–16, 2026 at Barangay 179 Hall, Amparo, Caloocan City. The activity aimed to shift the M&E approach from design-focused processes toward reflection, learning, and adaptive management.

The workshop provided a platform to assess progress against outputs, capture early outcomes and behavioral changes, and surface key implementation challenges—particularly in enterprise formation and formalization. It also strengthened stakeholder ownership and accountability while aligning partners on clear and actionable next steps to improve project implementation.

The activity was attended by representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Caloocan City Environmental Management Department (CEMD), Ecowaste Coalition, and Barangays 167, 179, and 187, together with the active participation of community waste workers across the three barangays.

The workshop concluded with the turnover of tools and equipment to partner organizations and barangays, supporting their continued implementation of circular economy initiatives and reinforcing their capacity to sustain and scale community-based circular economy enterprises.

Moving forward, PBSP will continue to provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to partner organizations, ensuring that learnings from the workshop are translated into concrete actions, strengthened enterprise operations, and more responsive and adaptive project implementation.

PBSP conducted a one-day Sustainability Planning Workshop as part of the transition phase of the Strengthening Inclusive Disaster Risk Governance for Climate Resilience in Asia (SIDRRA) project.

The workshop gathered 61 participants from Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Guindulungan, and Mamasapano. It was participated by representatives from PBSP community core groups, line agencies Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and civil society organizations, such as Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Services (IDEALS,Inc.), Moro Women Development and Cultural Center, Inc.(MWDECC), and United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD).

MDRRMO focal persons Ms. Rohana Salik of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Mr. Vincent M. Cuales of Mamasapano, and Mr. Haron B. Laguiamuda of Guindulungan also took part in the workshop facilitated by Ms. Akrima Arap of UNYPHIL.

Through reflection sessions, SWOT analysis, visioning, and commitment-setting activities, participants identified priority actions to sustain coordination and inclusive DRRM efforts at the local level, even beyond the project period.

𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐚-𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐨, 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐝𝐨!

Last month, the Danielle Moore Spring of Hope Foundation, with Myriad Canada and PBSP, recognized five graduating Grade 12 students who will receive financial assistance for their first year in university or college.

The five students came from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand and General Academic Strand (GAS) of Toledo National High School in Nabas, Aklan and were selected based on academic performance, financial need, community involvement, and future goals.

Clarisse Abenir-Moore of the Danielle Moore Spring of Hope Foundation and Ms. Amanda Bacani PBSP's Grant Management and Implementation Unit Manager met the scholars during the graduation ceremony attended by over 200 students and their families at Toledo National High School.

The scholarship was established in honor of her late daughter Danielle Moore who championed education, sustainability, and community building. The financial assistance will help ease the burden of school expenses which often deters students from pursuing higher education.
