During the summer, water can become harder to access in some communities.

As sources begin to dry up, people may need to travel farther just to collect water. Supply becomes limited, and it’s not always guaranteed that the water available is safe.

For many, this is part of their everyday routine during the dry season.

It’s a reminder of why protecting water sources and finding sustainable solutions continue to matter.

On April 20, SAFE droplet formalized its Riverbank Stabilization Initiative in Barangay Danao, Cajidiocan, Romblon through a Memorandum of Agreement signing.

The initiative promotes bamboo planting as a nature-based solution to help stabilize riverbanks, reduce erosion, and strengthen the community’s resilience against flooding.

With the active involvement of the Sangguniang Kabataan, the project highlights the important role of youth in driving sustainable and community-led environmental action.

As we celebrate Earth Day, this initiative reflects a shared commitment to protecting the environment and building a safer, more resilient future for Barangay Danao.

SAFE droplet Inc., in partnership with the DENR Mt. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park Protected Area Management Office, conducted a Capacity Building and Hands-on Training on Bamboo Propagation in Sibuyan Island.

The activity brought together youth, local government representatives, and Indigenous Peoples to learn practical bamboo propagation techniques and explore its role in erosion control, watershed protection, and sustainable livelihoods.

This marks the first phase of GreenBanks: Youth Action for Bamboo-Based Riverbank Protection, promoting bamboo as a nature-based solution for environmental conservation and climate resilience.

Protecting the environment also means protecting our water.

Simple ways to help protect our water and environment:

1. Reduce plastic use
Less plastic waste helps prevent pollution in rivers, lakes, and other water resources.

2. Practice proper waste disposal
Proper waste management helps keep waterways clean and reduces environmental damage.

3. Conserve water at home
Simple actions like turning off taps and fixing leaks can help reduce water waste.

4. Support local environmental efforts
Participating in community initiatives help protect natural resources and ecosystems.

Protecting the environment also means protecting the water that communities rely on everyday.

This Earth Month, we are reminded that small, consistent actions can contribute to a healthier environment and more sustainable water resources.

Strengthening leadership and collaboration in the water sector starts with learning and shared experiences.

SAFE droplet participated in the Women Champions in the Water Sector Fellowship Program, gaining deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities within the water sector through learning sessions, mentorship, and field exposure.

Beyond the sessions, one of the most meaningful parts of the fellowship was the space to share experiences and challenges as women working in this field. It was encouraging to realize that these experiences are shared, and that there is a growing community of women across the Philippines supporting one another.

Qualities often seen as weaknesses, such as empathy and care, were recognized as strengths that drive meaningful work for both communities and the environment. The connections built through the fellowship also open opportunities for collaboration and for bringing proposed solutions into action.

SAFE droplet looks forward to applying these insights to strengthen its work in advancing sustainable water solutions.

We extend our appreciation to Angat Buhay, Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines, Save Philippine Seas, and Manila Water Foundation for organizing this meaningful initiative.

Protecting watersheds starts with understanding the risks.

SAFE droplet presented the results of its assessment of landslide affected areas within the Taal Volcano Protected Landscape caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine during the first quarter meeting of the Protected Area Management Board on March 24.

The findings will serve as an important basis for developing informed and responsive rehabilitation plans for the identified areas.

This initiative also supports SAFE droplet’s mission of ensuring access to safe and clean water, as restoring landslide affected areas helps protect watersheds, reduce erosion, and preserve water quality for surrounding communities.
