As children, vulnerability is one of their weaknesses and poverty is one of the enemies in their healthy growth. Poverty-stricken households are the least nurturing environment for a growing child. Their nutrition is faced with hunger, threatened with diseases as they do not have enough access to food and clean water. To add, their education will also be inefficient as they cannot afford learning materials and tuition. These environments are also prone to abuse and could lead to behavioral/socioemotional problems in their adolescence or adulthood. Unfair it may be, children do not have a choice in these situations yet they are the most affected.

Every household needs funds to purchase their daily needs like food and shelter. It is also a given that to get these funds, you would need a stable job or work. This makes it hard for Filipinos especially with the economic effects of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Companies and corporations lay off workers to alleviate their financial losses, leading to more citizens without a livelihood.

Statistics show that within just 4 months (July 2021-October 2021), the percentage of national employment increased from 6.9% to 7.4%. This indicates thousands of jobless workers without living wages. Government regulations limit businesses from hiring more workers along with their financial limitations.

Poverty is hunger, inability to purchase necessities, and having a mental breakdown about the future. It prevents us from meeting our most basic needs.

The Philippines has a long history of poverty. It's a problem that's been going on for a long time and that everyone is aware of. Poverty in the Philippines was estimated to be 23.7 percent, or 26.14 million people, in the first semester of 2021.

In the first semester of 2021, the subsistence incidence, which is related to poverty and measures whether an income is enough to feed a whole family, was recorded at 9.9%, or about 10.94 million Filipinos.
