Our colleagues from Bangkok are hosting the inaugural HCI Summer School in Asia! Starting today in Bangkok, two graduate school students from De La Salle University's DLSU Human-X Interactions Lab are participating and ready to learn from some of Asia's seasoned HCI researchers.

04/06/2025

🌌 Wednesdays in SPACE 🌌

Welcome to the Human-X Interactions Laboratory (HXIL) of DLSU CCSβ€”where we explore the future of human-technology interaction beyond screens and keyboards. As part of the Advanced Research Institute for Informatics, Computing, and Networking, HXIL investigates how emerging technologies like XR, robotics, drones, and AI shape the way we live, learn, and create.

πŸš€ One of our flagship initiatives is the SPACE Agendaβ€”Spatial, Pervasive, Augmented, and Creative Experiences. Led by DST Faculty Jordan Aiko Deja, this research program explores how we design, develop, and evaluate interfaces that help people better understand themselves and their environments.

🧭 The SPACE Agenda is guided by big questions like:

How do people live, learn, work, and interact in spatial environments?
How do we balance and boost productivity in such spaces?
How can we support creative experiences that thrive in social and augmented contexts?

✨ Starting this week, we’ll be featuring one project every Wednesday, each tackling these questions in unique ways:
🎹 How do we teach blues improvisation using projection mapping on piano rolls?
🎼 How can XR enable experiential learning in jazz improvisation?
🧱 Can augmented tangible blocks help novices grasp CS concepts like pointers?
πŸ–ΌοΈ Can interactive XR murals enhance spatial, visual, and textual recall?
πŸ“š How do we manage information density in XR lessons on textile frame weaving?
🌊 How can XR support collaborative sensemaking in flood emergency planning?
πŸ€– How can robots and grasp-based gestures enable playful visual storytelling?

Follow us every as we spotlight the ideas, technologies, and people behind these questions.

πŸ“£Calling all young HCI researchers!

Learn from some of the best Asian HCI researchers in the inaugural seasonal schools for HCI in Asia.

The Asia SIGCHI Committee (ASC), the Bangkok ACM SIGCHI Chapter, in collaboration with the Faculty of Information Technology and Digital Innovation, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, will organize a Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Summer School in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 16th to June 20th, 2025. The HCI Summer School aims to provide early-career researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and industry professionals with foundational and advanced knowledge in HCI through research talks, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities. This event is free of charge.

If you are interested in participating in the HCI Summer School, please scan the QR code or use this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3SDZFCD to fill out the application form by 30th May, 2025, 21:00 hrs (Bangkok Time). πŸŽ‰ Thank you for making CHIRP 2025 a success! πŸŽ‰

A huge shout-out to all our participants, organizers, reviewers, presenters, and authors for helping make this year’s CHIRP 2025 Workshop truly memorable. πŸ™Œ

We had such a great turnout that we had to make a last-minute venue change from a small classroom to the big plenary hall β€” a wonderful problem to have! πŸ’₯ The day was filled with engaging roundtable discussions, paper presentations, and interactive demos, showcasing the vibrant and growing HCI community here in the Philippines. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

We are grateful for everyone’s energy and contributions, and we hope to see you again at CHIRP 2026!
