Due to the current power supply situation in the grid, there is a possibility of rotational brownouts in selected areas, particularly during periods of high demand.

To help customers prepare, we are providing the possible rotational brownout schedule for the week. The schedule may be implemented as needed based on the prevailing grid conditions and the latest instructions from NGCP to manage power demand.

SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated based on all available data at 1,040 km East of Northern Luzon (18.6ยฐN, 131.5ยฐE). Southwest Monsoon affecting Luzon and the western section of Visayas.

Forecast Weather Conditions:

Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan will have occasional rains due to Southwest Monsoon. (Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains)

The Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Southwest Monsoon (Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains).

Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, the rest of Central Luzon, Ilocos Norte, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Antique will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to Southwest Monsoon (Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms).

The rest of Luzon and the rest of Western Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to Southwest Monsoon (Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms).

You often hear it in weather reports: โ€œHabagat is affecting the country.โ€

But what exactly is Habagat?

HABAGAT, or the Southwest Monsoon, is a seasonal wind pattern that brings warm, moisture-filled air from the southwest toward the Philippines.

As this moist air moves across the country, it can produce cloudy skies, frequent rains, and thunderstormsโ€”particularly over western portions of the Philippines.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ IS HABAGAT A TYPHOON?

No. Habagat is not a tropical cyclone or typhoon.
It is a large-scale seasonal wind system.

๐ŸŒ€ WHY CAN HABAGAT BECOME STRONGER WHEN THERE IS A TYPHOON?

A tropical cyclone, even when it is far from land, can sometimes enhance the Southwest Monsoon.

This can pull more moisture toward the country and result in prolonged or heavier rainfall in affected areas.

โš ๏ธ WHY SHOULD WE PAY ATTENTION?

Periods of heavy or continuous rain may increase the risk of flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.

So when you hear โ€œHabagatโ€ in a weather advisory, remember:

As electricity demand currently exceeds available power supply, temporary rotational brownouts may be implemented in affected areas.
