Cebu City, Philippines โ€” The spirit of solidarity and compassion shone brightly at Dubbyโ€™s, the main hub and home of the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADS), as 2KCares, the alumni-led initiative of Sacred Heart School โ€“ Ateneo de Cebu, successfully turned over the proceeds from the recently concluded St. Ignatius Run. Holding the event at Dubbyโ€™s was especially meaningful, as it served as the gathering place of the beneficiaries who were united in joy and gratitude.

The proceeds funded the purchase of 60 brand-new wheelchairs and 30 brand-new pairs of crutches, granting mobility and dignity to many of our brothers and sisters with disabilities.

The turnover was deeply emotional as several PWD beneficiaries shared their heartfelt gratitude. For many, it was their very first time to own a wheelchairโ€”no longer having to borrow one from others. Tears of joy and thankfulness filled the venue as their long-awaited dreams of independence finally came true.

โ€œNaa na koy kaugalingong wheelchair. Dili na ko manghulam โ€” dako kaayo kiniโ€™g kausaban sa akong kinabuhi.โ€

Beyond individual beneficiaries, the initiative also extended its reach to the broader community. Extra wheelchairs were donated to the Mandaue District Hospital to help aid earthquake victims who are in urgent need of mobility assistance.

Cebu City, Philippines โ€” In response to the devastation caused by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Bogo City and the northern towns of Cebu, 2KCares.org of the Sacred Heart School โ€“ Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Association, organizers of the St. Ignatius Run 2025 and SNV Pharmaceuticals, has extended its advocacy beyond the race course by delivering critical medical aid to the affected communities.

Through this initiative, the more than 2 million pesos worth of essential medicines including antibiotics, pain killers, hypertension treatments, and local anesthesia were transported to Bogo City and distributed to Cebu Provincial Hospital, Bogo City and other hospitals across Northern Cebu. These supplies provide urgent support to medical frontliners and relief to families struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.

This effort reflects the spirit of solidarity and service, ensuring that vital resources reach communities most affected by the earthquake.

It also reinforces 2KCaresโ€™ enduring mission to empower lives through education, healthcare, and sports, while highlighting the organizationโ€™s role in disaster response and inclusive community service. Having recently mounted the successful St. Ignatius Run 2025, which championed wellness, inclusivity, and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), 2KCares now extends the same spirit of advocacy to disaster relief. Affirming that its Run for a Cause is not just about inclusion for PWDs, but about running alongside every Cebuano in times of struggle and recovery.

The St. Ignatius Run 25: RE:UNITE NATION has been hailed a resounding success, bringing together students, teachers, parents, athletes, and the community in a celebration of fitness, service, and joy. More than just a race, it was an experience filled with unity, purpose, and compassion.

From the gun starts to the awarding ceremonies, the event was filled with energy and smiles. Families came together, students and teachers proudly joined the course, and parents cheered on their children, all in the spirit of running not just for themselves, but for a cause. One of the most heartwarming sights was seeing students and participants dancing in unison during the Zumba warm-up, sharing laughter and energy as one community.

Critical to the success of the event was its top-notch safety and security. Marshals, medical personnel, and volunteers were stationed across the route, ensuring the welfare of every participant. Hydration stations were strategically positioned and fully stocked, meeting international race standards. Medical teams were on standby and ready to respond at all times, providing peace of mind to runners and supporters alike.

Finisher shirts were distributed during the official race kit claiming period, in accordance with international running event standards, ensuring smooth flow on event day. For those who missed early claiming, continued race kit claiming was available during the event, providing convenience to participants.

To make the experience even more memorable, runners enjoyed free medal engraving, access to an official photo booth, and the opportunity to personalize their race experience through the โ€œWhat Are You Running For?โ€ Reflection Wall.

True to its mission, proceeds from the run are directed toward providing wheelchairs, crutches, and assistive devices for PWDs, ensuring that mobility and dignity are restored to our brothers and sisters in need. Early registrants were also given special recognition, reflecting the overwhelming support of the community for this initiative.

Beyond the race itself, the event also provided free medical services to participants and guests, including consultations with a medical nutrition physician, orthopedic check-ups, cardiac screenings, and dental consultations. These offerings underscored the eventโ€™s commitment to holistic wellness, ensuring that runners left not just with medals, but with better health insights too.

The foam party lit up the morning with laughter and celebration, while food booths created a festive atmosphere that catered to every taste.

Indeed, the run was more than an athletic event. It was a testament to the joy of community, the strength of service, and the Ignatian value of being men and women for others. The joy felt across the Ateneo community, students, parents, alumni, and teachers alike was a reminder that when we run together, we create something far greater than ourselves.

The St. Ignatius Run 25 showed that while medals and distances matter, the true victory lies in the lives touched, the communities uplifted, and the purpose fulfilled.

Daghang salamat to our runners, volunteers, sponsors, and partners. This is only the beginning. Together, we will continue to run with joy, with unity, and with purpose.

Through the generosity of our runners, sponsors, and partners, we have purchased wheelchairs, crutches, and other essential assistive devices for our brothers and sisters with disabilities. More importantly, this initiative is designed to be sustainable, ensuring long-term support so that devices may be replaced or repaired when needed. This is not just a one-time effort, but an ongoing commitment to restore dignity, independence, and hope.

In addition, the run supports the Blue Plate Project, a school-based feeding program that provides free mid-day meals to less fortunate students. This program directly addresses the urgent issues of malnutrition and stunted growth among Filipino learners, ensuring that children not only survive, but thrive healthy, nourished, and ready to learn.

These efforts reflect our unwavering commitment to the Ignatian value of being โ€œmen and women for others.โ€ For the organizers, giving back is not optional. It is at the very heart of what we do. The St. Ignatius Run 25 was not just a sporting event, but a movement of compassion, solidarity, and service.

As we close this milestone, we stand firm in our mission: every stride taken today will ripple into real change for underprivileged communities tomorrow. Together, we ran not only for ourselves, but for a greater cause. one that uplifts, empowers, and unites.

And this is just the beginning. Please stay tuned for our upcoming posts as we turn over the proceeds of this run to our PWD brothers and sisters, just as we promised.

Daghang salamat to our runners, volunteers, partners, and sponsors. With your continued support, we will keep running forward & towards a future where no one is left behind.

St. Ignatius Run 25 Clarifies Post-Race Meal Choice: A Healthier Approach for Runners

Cebu City, Philippines, September 28, 2025

The St. Ignatius Run 25: RE:UNITE NATION concluded with thousands of runners coming together in unity, fitness, and celebration. From the early morning gun starts to the awarding and festival activities, the event was a resounding success in bringing the community together for wellness, camaraderie, and purpose.

However, we also recognize the feedback regarding the post-race meal served after the run. Our chosen meal: bread, banana, and egg was designed with runnersโ€™ health in mind. The intention was to provide a nutrient-dense, light, and easily digestible breakfast that aligns with medical and sports nutrition recommendations after endurance activities.

According to medical nutrition experts, the first meal after a long run should be light yet rich in carbohydrates and protein to quickly replenish glycogen stores and support muscle recovery. Foods like bread and banana are excellent sources of easy-to-digest carbs and potassium, while egg provides a clean protein source without heavy fats. These were deliberately chosen over fried or oily alternatives to avoid slowing down the bodyโ€™s recovery process.

As outlined by a Medical Nutrition Doctorโ€™s guide:

โ€ขHydration comes first: Runners need fluids and electrolytes, which were available at the finish line through Pocari Sweat stations.
โ€ขGentle refueling: Bread and banana are ideal to restart the digestive system and restore energy.
โ€ขProtein boost: Egg supports muscle repair without the excess fat that greasy meals contain.

While some participants may have expected a heavier traditional Filipino breakfast, we stand by our intention to encourage healthier recovery habits after endurance events. We also acknowledge the passion of our community and value the feedback shared.

We thank everyone who ran, volunteered, and supported St. Ignatius Run 25. Your energy and unity made this event truly unforgettable, and we remain committed to wellness, service, and community-building.

Daghang salamat, Cebu. See you at the next run โ€” padayon!
