Faith and fellowship filled the hearts of the 32nd and 33rd Batch Norwegian Shipowners Association (NSA) Cadets at the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) as they gathered in front of the campus cathedral following last Sunday’s worship service. United in prayer and gratitude, the cadets took a moment to thank the Lord for His unwavering guidance and countless blessings, renewing their strength and faith as they continue to face the challenges of cadet life together.

The gathering was made even more meaningful through an icebreaker activity, "𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁," which brought smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of connection among everyone present. It is more than just a fun activity, as it shows that amidst discipline and responsibilities, there is always room for joy, encouragement, and the shared faith that continues to unite each cadet.

𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 33rd Batch MOA Signing, First Parents’ Meeting, and Company Orientation

On Friday, July 24, 2026, the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) held the Parents and Cadets Orientation and MOA Signing for the newly endorsed 33rd Batch of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) Cadet Program. This milestone event brought together incoming maritime cadets, their families, university officials, and representatives from global shipping companies to mark the beginning of the young seafarers’ professional training journey. Parents from across the Philippines also traveled to UCLM, to show their unwavering love and support as they sat beside their children in taking the first step toward a future at sea.

The morning assembly officially commenced with welcoming remarks from 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙩. 𝙍𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙤 𝙄. 𝙏𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙮, UCLM OIC Maritime, setting an inspiring tone of discipline and academic excellence. The terms, responsibilities, and important provisions of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) were then thoroughly discussed, ensuring that both cadets and their parents gained a clear understanding of the program’s expectations and commitments prior to signing the contract. This was then followed by a detailed Q&A session to address parents’ and cadets’ queries. A major highlight of the program was the formal NSA MOA Signing and Pinning Ceremony led by 𝙈𝙧. 𝙇𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙂𝙤𝙣𝙯𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙨, NSA Cadet Manager.

The official ceremony concluded with inspiring closing remarks from 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙧. 𝙅𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙮𝙣 𝘼. 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣, UCLM NSA Project Director, alongside UCLM Maritime Administration officials, and 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙧. 𝙅𝙚𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙣 𝙌𝙪𝙞𝙖𝙥𝙤, the new Training Development Officer (TDO) of the NSA Cadet Program, as well as representatives from partner shipping companies: 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫, 𝐇𝐅𝐒𝐏𝐈, 𝐇ö𝐞𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐕𝐈, 𝐎𝐒𝐌 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠, 𝐔𝐭𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧, and 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐌𝐠𝐦𝐭.

As these young cadets begin their journey, they take their first confident step toward turning their biggest dreams into reality.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲

Every emergency drill is more than just a routine. It is a commitment to safety, discipline, and responsibility. On July 21, 2026, the UCLM-NSA 32nd Batch and 33rd Batch successfully conducted their Monthly Emergency Drill.

The drill gave every cadet the opportunity to practice the proper evacuation procedures, from responding to the emergency alarm to safely reaching the designated assembly area. The activity highlighted the importance of remaining calm, working as a team, and following established safety protocols during emergencies.

Preparedness is not measured by how fast we react when an emergency happens, but by how well we train before it does. Through continuous drills, the UCLM-NSA Cadets continue to build the confidence, discipline, and readiness needed to face emergencies with composure. Every drill is an investment in safety, ensuring they are prepared to protect lives when it matters most.

𝗥𝗲-𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗦𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁𝘀

The University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM), in collaboration with the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA), successfully conducted the re-orientation of the 33rd Batch of NSA Cadets at the CBE Function Hall on July 20, 2026. The whole day program served as an introduction for the new cadets, providing them with the knowledge, expectations, and values required as they enter the prestigious program.

The event included presentations from the university administration, department heads, and NSA coordinators on various key areas such as Information Technology Services, Dormitory Life, Guidance and Counselling Services, Medical and Dental Services, Onboard Training, PRC Initiatives, Student Affairs, and Academic Requirements.

This quote perfectly captured the spirit of the re-orientation as cadets were encouraged to embrace every opportunity to learn, grow, and prepare themselves for the responsibilities of becoming future maritime professionals.

The program ended with an interactive Question and Answer (Q&A) session, giving cadets the opportunity to voice their concerns and learn more about the expectations and opportunities available in the NSA Cadet Program. It was not only a formality of orientation, but also the beginning of a meaningful journey that will equip the cadets with the necessary skills, discipline, and competitiveness needed to excel in their future careers.

Being selected as part of Batch 33 is more than an achievement — it is a testament to each cadet’s dedication, perseverance, and potential.
