We recently conducted the final Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) meeting for our research study exploring people's reliance on public justice systems for protection from the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC), co-led in collaboration with the University of Nottingham Rights Lab and the International Justice Mission. For this project, we established and facilitated a LEAP to help guide the research process. LEAP members provided provided input through every phase of the research, including supporting the refinement of study instruments and qualitative interview guides, feedbacking on emerging findings, and co-creating recommendations for justice system actors, among others. We would like to express our thanks to LEAP members for sharing their insights and recommendations throughout the research process.

In collaboration with our partners, the University of Nottingham Rights Lab and the International Justice Mission, we recently finished a series of community validation workshops in Manila, Cebu, and Mindanao for our joint research project exploring how people rely on public justice systems in the Philippines for protection against the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC). Study findings were presented and feedback was obtained from key community stakeholders, including survivors, justice system representatives, non-governmental organizations, local government agencies, and representatives from the educational sector. We express our thanks to all community partners who contributed to these rich discussions and who co-created a series of recommendations for future action steps to strengthen justice system responses to OSEC.

This summer, we had the pleasure of hosting three interns from Brown University, Priyanka Nambiar, Kieran Flores, and Layla Ahmed. Throughout their 10-week internship, the interns assisted in the development of new mental health education materials, drafting communications materials, and writing case studies. Additionally, they helped with writing literature reviews for Eleison's research projects pertaining to reliance on public justice systems for protection from the online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) and crisis intervention services for survivors. We express our gratitude to Brown University for facilitating this opportunity, and to Priyanka, Kieran, and Layla for their dedicated work this summer.

As a part of our community mental health services, we offer mental health education workshops for survivors, their support persons, vulnerable youth, and other members of the community. Our mental health education program focuses on strengthening mental health knowledge and awareness, building safe spaces to discuss mental health, destigmatizing mental health, and early identification of mental health concerns. CMHE sessions are interactive workshops designed to equip participants with concrete tools for managing their emotions and taking care of their mental health in a holistic manner.

We are proud to celebrate the graduation of the 6th cohort of our Connection and Recovery after Exploitation (CARE) Groups program with youth who have experienced exploitation. CARE is a structured support group program which focuses on helping youth learn strategies to identify and manage their emotions, strengthen self-regulation techniques, and build support systems. CARE Groups cultivate a safe, trauma-informed environment, encouraging open discussion, fostering peer support, and creating spaces in which survivors can freely express themselves.

We have recently launched the 10th cohort of the Healing and Resilience after Trauma (HaRT) Cebu program for survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence. HaRT Cebu is 12-week trauma-informed mind-body intervention that integrates mindfulness practices, yoga poses, breathing exercises, and peer discussions to provide a safe space for survivors’ healing. Through trauma-informed yoga, participants can balance stress hormones, boost overall well-being, improve emotional regulation, and enhance a felt sense of safety in their bodies.

We are pleased to introduce Gigi Gonzalez, our Administrative Officer! Gigi provides administrative support for Eleison’s programs, research, and our daily operations. Her work ensures that office procedures run efficiently, documentation is complete, and operational systems function properly, allowing the team to focus on fulfilling Eleison's mission. One of our Survivor Leadership Council (SLC) members recently presented in a panel presentation for the Asia Region Survivors and Allies Network (ARSAN) Leadership Lab. This panel, entitled "The Gifts of Lived Experience Leadership," explored how survivor leadership reshapes institutions and movements. Our team member spoke to the forms of knowledge emerging from lived experience that are often overlooked by traditional leadership models and discussed the transformative value of lived experience leadership in the anti-trafficking movement. We are delighted to be represented as core members in ARSAN and we look forward to continuing this important dialogue with survivors and allies throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
