Nanay Marina Galla is 59 years old and from Marikina. She always takes her 12 dogs with her wherever she goes.
I spoke with her earlier and learned more about her story. She decided to keep the puppies because she felt bad about giving them away. The puppies are from one of her older dogs.
Even though she struggles to take care of herself, she continues to care for all 12 of her dogs. She collects cartons and plastics to sell so she can buy food not only for herself but also for her dogs.
She has a small house that she calls her โsmall kubo,โ but it is currently flooded. Because of the nonstop rain here in Manila, she and her dogs are temporarily sleeping in her sidecar.
Today, Nanay Marina received food for her dogs and for herself, water, a brand-new cellphone and cash. The โฑ3,000 I personally gave her will be used toward repairing and improving her small house.
I also want to sincerely thank Ms. for donating โฑ4,500 to help Nanay Marina. Your kindness means so much.
I will be visiting Nanay Marina again this coming Friday to personally see the condition of her home and understand what other assistance she may need.
One of the biggest challenges right now is food storage. Because her home is flooded and the rain continues, she cannot keep much food because it can easily get wet or spoil. She plans to make changes to her kubo so that water will no longer enter.
My hope is that we can help her repair her home so she and her 12 dogs will no longer have to sleep outside or in the sidecar.
