Unilab Foundation convened major hospitals including Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJRNMHS), Tondo Medical Center, National Children’s Hospital, and the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital to discuss ways to improve patient experience through an integrated Patient Navigation System aimed at strengthening coordinated care, referral systems, and emergency response across healthcare institutions.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Valenzuela City Health Office, highlighting the importance of local health system collaboration in ensuring continuity of care and improved patient access.

This project serves as an applied pilot intervention under the Unilab Center for Health Policy’s partnership with the Department of Health – Health Emergency Management Bureau (DOH HEMB), the Philippine College for Emergency Medicine (PCEM), and the Valenzuela City local government.

Unilab Foundation turned over basic health equipment and supplies to support the primary healthcare initiative in Barangay Manlilinao, Ormoc City, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare access in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).​
​
This initiative forms part of the GIDA program in partnership with the Ormoc City local government, which aims to pilot the recommendations and findings from studies conducted by the Unilab Center for Health Policy (UCHP) on improving healthcare delivery in underserved communities.​
​
The project also seeks to provide telehealth capabilities in GIDA communities by capacitating Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and strengthening local health systems through digital health integration and accessible primary care services. Discussions were likewise held on data interoperability and the possible implementation of telemedicine services in GIDAs.​
​
By translating policy insights into localized and actionable interventions, UCHP remains committed to advancing a more resilient, inclusive, and equitable healthcare ecosystem for every Filipino.​

The transition to Universal Health Care (UHC) relies on stable institutions and local solutions. The Ministry of Health - BARMM, the Institute for Autonomy and Governance(IAG), and Unilab Foundation, through the Unilab Center for Health Policy (UCHP), have formalized a partnership to support the Bangsamoro health system.​

Through this collaboration, the organizations will work to improve health governance and develop primary care models anchored in the community. The initiative also focuses on gathering data on health financing and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) use to help inform regional policy and budgeting.

UCHP believes that supporting frontline workers and aligning technical research with the Bangsamoro context will establish functional pathways for UHC delivery.​
