This study surveyed edible mollusks sold in public markets across Capiz to document their identity, availability, diversity, seasonality, marketability, coastal sources, merchandise, and commercial value. Interviews with 39 vendors (Juneโ€“August 2024) identified 19 mollusk species, with Asian green mussel or โ€œtahongโ€ (๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ๐˜ข ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ด) and Philippine cupped oyster or โ€œtalabaโ€ (๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ข) being the most widely sold and in highest demand.

Other species were sold less frequently and in fewer markets such as ๐˜›๐˜ฆ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ข ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ข (Blood Cockle), ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ข ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ข (Toothless Clam), ๐˜—๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜น๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ด (Great Scallops), and ๐˜“๐˜ข๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฃ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข (Dog Conch). Selling speed varied by species and location, largely reflecting consumer demand. Overall, this study reveals production and other relevant data on the merchandise, commercialization, distribution, and source availability of edible mollusks in the province.
