World Food Programme

World Food Programme Official page of the UN World Food Programme in the Philippines Today, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

The World Food Programme was created in 1961, as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system. In 1965, WFP became a fully-fledged UN programme, to last for “as long as multilateral food aid is found feasible and desirable”. WFP assists 80 million people in around 80 countries each year, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and buil

d resilience. On any given day, WFP has 5,000 trucks, 20 ships and 70 planes on the move, delivering food and other assistance to those in most need. In emergencies, WFP is often first on the scene, providing food assistance to the victims of war, civil conflict, drought, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures and natural disasters. When the emergency subsides, WFP helps communities rebuild shattered lives and livelihoods. We also work to strengthen the resilience of people and communities affected by protracted crises by applying a development lens in our humanitarian response. WFP is funded entirely by voluntary donations, in 2016 WFP raised US$5.9 billion. WFP has more than 14,000 staff worldwide of whom over 90% are based in the countries where the agency provides assistance.

🌱 🌱 A sustainable food system is key to food security.

WFP Philippines joined smallholder farmers and food security champions at the Sagip Saka Day, in partnership with the Office of Senator Kiko Pangilinan the Department of Agriculture - Philippines and the Quezon City Government

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our food producers and reaffirm our collective commitment to strengthen local food systems.

In Barangay Blensong, Upi, Maguindanao del Norte, fresh vegetables cultivated by the community go straight to school meals 🌱🍽️

For women like Erlinda and Maria Fe, this means more than food. It means extra income for their families and the assurance that their children are eating nutritious meals every day.

Through hands‑on trainings, community members are strengthening their livelihoods and learning to track income. Under the Bangsamoro Government's SECURE Convergence Programme, farming households receive cash assistance from the Ministry of Social Services and Development and fortified rice as part of an integrated support that helps build assets & enhance resilience.🌱

Grateful for the support of Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館 in making this possible. 🙏

: A glimpse inside a facility in Norala, South Cotabato, where 🍚 is fortified with iron to help improve nutrition.

Since 2018, WFP has been working with 🇵🇭 Government to promote iron-fortified rice, including in school meals, as part of the broader effort to address malnutrition in the country. 🍽
