World Food Programme

World Food Programme Official page of the UN World Food Programme in the Philippines Today, WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

The World Food Programme was created in 1961, as an experiment to provide food aid through the UN system. In 1965, WFP became a fully-fledged UN programme, to last for “as long as multilateral food aid is found feasible and desirable”. WFP assists 80 million people in around 80 countries each year, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and buil

d resilience. On any given day, WFP has 5,000 trucks, 20 ships and 70 planes on the move, delivering food and other assistance to those in most need. In emergencies, WFP is often first on the scene, providing food assistance to the victims of war, civil conflict, drought, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures and natural disasters. When the emergency subsides, WFP helps communities rebuild shattered lives and livelihoods. We also work to strengthen the resilience of people and communities affected by protracted crises by applying a development lens in our humanitarian response. WFP is funded entirely by voluntary donations, in 2016 WFP raised US$5.9 billion. WFP has more than 14,000 staff worldwide of whom over 90% are based in the countries where the agency provides assistance.

📍 Catanduanes

Located along the eastern seaboard of the Philippines, Catanduanes is frequently exposed to some of the country's strongest typhoons. Through enhanced preparedness efforts and trainings, responders in Gigmoto are now better equipped to respond to emergencies and support communities in need.

With the support of partners Australia in The Philippines, EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, the 🇵🇭 Government and WFP are building stronger disaster management systems. 🚨💪

What does it take to build a more disaster-ready Philippines? 🚨

From the country’s north to south, the Philippine Government and WFP are strengthening disaster management systems and capacities at the national and local levels.

By improving emergency preparedness, reinforcing humanitarian supply chains, equipping local responders, and boosting community resilience, we are helping ensure food security amidst emergencies and reshape disaster preparedness and response across the country.

With the support of partners Australia in The Philippines, EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, and U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, these collaborative efforts contribute to a stronger, more resilient, disaster-ready and food-secure Philippines 🇵🇭.

10-year old Joe dreams of becoming a chef. His motivation? School meals 😊

With daily school meals, Joe is even more eager to learn. One day, he hopes to become a chef 👨‍🍳 and help prepare the same hot, nutritious meals that support children like him. 💙

Meet Jocelyn, proudly holding a 9-kilogram squash grown from seeds provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, BARMM through the Bangsamoro Government's SECURE Convergence Programme. 🌱

Together with others in Barangay Bongo, South Upi, she helps tend to a community vegetable garden that supplies fresh harvest to Bongo Elementary School, where she serves as head cook. Every day, she helps prepare hot, nutritious meals for over 300 children. 🥣

Through this initiative supported by the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館, communities are boosting their resilience while helping ensure nutritious meals for schoolchildren.💙
