Currently, there are 30 GK Communities working in close collaboration with the GK SipaG Youth Leadership Program. This program is a special project under the Child and Youth Development Program of GK, known as SIPAG, which is implemented, monitored, and evaluated. The program promotes the value of "Sipag," which means diligence in Filipino, to its youth participants, their parents, and the surroun

ding communities. Additionally, "Sipa," the Filipino word for "to kick," represents the grassroots football aspect of the program.

Trivia Tuesday

We had this online Focus Discussion Group of selected coaches, SipaG Bubuyog parents, players and volunteers from all over the country.

It was a thoughful exchange of updates and information about GK SipaG on the ground where the Gawad Kalinga Football program had touchdowns - about their current needs and areas for improvements.

Thanks to all who participated in this web meeting so we can move forward and know what we can still assist one another notwithstanding our different locations.

No, it's not just the team named France but everybody won in this mini World Cup.

An early birthday celebration by Ethan Pampolina, brother of Kaya FC Academy alumnus Will Pampolina turned into a day filled with smiles, teamwork, and the love for the game! Inviting some of Will's former Kaya academians from GK SipaG players and coaches, he gathered them all together with his other football enthusiasts for a fun Mini World Cup Tournament, creating unforgettable memories on the pitch and off the sidelines.

Beyond the Goal: How GK SIPAG Builds Champions in Life ⚽🐝💛

Every child deserves a chance to dream and play. Every community deserves hope.

Today, we had the privilege of sharing the story and mission Sipag and SipaG Bubuyog with our friends and supporters from GKUSA during an online session. We shared how football serves as a platform to shape young leaders, strengthen communities, and inspire the next generation to believe in their potential and pursue their dreams.

To our GK USA family, thank you for walking this journey with us. Your generosity, encouragement, and unwavering support make it possible for us to reach more young people and help them become champions in life.

Together, we are proving that sports can do so much more than build athletes. It is a great equalizer that opens doors, transforms lives, strengthens communities, and creates a future filled with hope.

Maraming salamat to everyone who joined us and continues to support our mission. Because of you, more young people are discovering their strengths, finding their purpose, and learning to lead with courage and compassion.

Trivia Tuesday

A short notice sort of courtesy call occurred in the lives of our SipaG Bubuyog coaches, not initiated by them but by the one whom they will visit, to their utter amazement. So it came to pass that Jeffrey Amper Tingue , Rainer Rivas , Rommie Rivas and Jerald Mendoza faced their village chief unawares, and urged them to do something which they had been dreaming of doing for a long time for the advancement of the sport they all love in these parts. We stop revealing here so as not to preempt anything, but in the meantime suffice to wholeheartedly thank PB Darwin Fernandez of Barangay Barangka Drive Mandaluyong for taking us GK SipaG by (happy) surprise. We are incredulous for this exciting development. We'll make sure we can come up with the challenging task laid before us.

Making their parents proud

We know that life is an endless learning cycle starting from home and our surrounding community environment. As required by the government, in our youth, we undergo a system of formal education in order to prepare ourselves for the future, to be able to enter the portals of the real "work force" world. We master one discipline from another that we can use to better our lives and the people dear to us, our mamas and papas. To them, we owe so much Thank Yous.

We congratulate some of our program participants who have crossed that threshold, notwithstanding the trials, toils and tests that go with college student life. Your triumph is well deserved.

Throwback Thursday

Not many current crop of GK SipaG players know or remember ever meeting this 2012 set of players shown in the photos below. Thru a courtesy call arranged by would-be Barangay Captain Darwin Fernandez , these batch visited the dashing city chief executive to report to him that among his constituency the youth demographic, there were football players, and they showed the young mayor their tournament souvenirs they have accumulated so far as proof.

That then city mayor is now Cabinet Secretary of the ruling dispensation in the national government, Sec. Benhur Abalos whose wife, Menchie by the way, is the mayor at present.

There weren't any good mobile phones back then, so we relied on a trusty camera to capture this moment.

One of the girls in the group picture with the Mayor would later become a youth leader on her own barangay bailiwick, Clarissa Mhay Arias .

GK SipaG in Barangay Barangka Drive Mandaluyong took root in 2009 when the first football squad of GK kids under the GK SAGIP program back then from GK Ma. Clara and GK Hilaga-Kapalaran (GK villages inside the barangay) were sent to play against other kids teams in The Peace One Day tournament at the Meralco football grounds in Pasig City. Amazingly, without serious football background, GK Hilaga-Kapalaran won the championship trophy which is no other than a prized TPOD football. Since then, there has been no turning back.

Slowly but surely, the football fever creeped in the consciousness of many Barangka Drive youth, not just from the Gawad Kalinga sites. Side streets and vacant lots were after-school or weekend habitues where kids hang out to skirmish with other kids over one football. Eventually, people, parents, and passersby noticed, who also endorsed the sport to their own youngsters. The sporting youth population grew, playing futsal and football.

Since then, there have been batches of kids who "enrolled" in the football program, and more who also "graduated" from them. Among them were SK chair Jade Ashly Esquivel and barangay kagawad Clarissa Mhay Arias. After their football stint, many more have joined the workforce as young private professionals or in the career service, and as parents themselves of the next generation of football kids. Many more kids followed suit the footsteps of their parents and older brother and sisters who participated on this grassroots football and youth program. Leading this crop are Chester Pagador De Torres and Zarah Francisco Malatbalat

It is with utmost and profuse gratitude that GK SipaG humbly accepts this citation from the Brgy. Barangka Drive that cradled this GK sports program as a football hub in this part of the city.

Our final day challenged our young leaders to reflect on the qualities that define a good leader and, more importantly, the kind of leader they aspire to become. Through meaningful conversations and personal reflection, they were reminded that leadership begins with integrity, compassion, humility, and a heart willing to serve.

As the camp came to a close, what started as a gathering of young people from different communities became a family united by a shared purpose. Together, we celebrated three days of learning, laughter, challenges, healing, and growth with a closing photo, a shared boodle lunch, and moments of fun that strengthened the friendships built throughout the camp.

This may be the final day of camp, but it is only the beginning of their journey as young leaders who will bring hope, service, and positive change to their families and communities.
