๐พ AN UPDATE ON PANPANโค๏ธโ๐ฉน
Last Oct 3, Panpanโs X-ray revealed a diaphragmatic hernia where his abdominal organs have already moved into the chest cavity with trauma as probable cause. Surgery was initially recommended as the only way to repair it. However, because Panpan may have had this condition for months, there is a significant risk that his organs have developed adhesions, making surgery difficult.
After seeking a second veterinary opinion, we were advised that surgery carries significant risks and a low likelihood of success in cases like Panpanโs. His blood test results also showed abnormally elevated liver enzymes, indicating liver damage that could increase the risk of complications during anesthesia.
For now, the decision is to focus on medical management, close monitoring, and giving Panpan the best possible quality of life. Thankfully, Panpan can still go about his day-to-day activities. Our priority is to preserve his comfort for as long as possible.
His veterinarian has advised against vaccination for now, as it could place additional demands on his immune system. If his condition progresses to the point where he experiences severe distress such as persistent open-mouth breathing or difficulty eating, humane euthanasia may need to be considered to prevent further suffering.
This is a difficult reality to face, but our priority is Panpanโs comfort, dignity, and well-being. We may not be able to change his diagnosis, but we can continue to care for him and make the time he has as comfortable as possible. โค๏ธ
Through your generosity, we have gathered โฑ3,200 in donations, which will go toward covering the veterinary tests he has undergone.
As we shift toward ongoing care and management, we are accepting in-kind and financial donations for his continuing medications and monitoring.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this post would also mean a lot to us. Thank you for continuing to care about Panpan and the community cats of Greenfield District.
