Across the Philippines, women environmental human rights defenders are advancing climate action, protecting communities, and championing environmental justice.

Together with the Manila Observatory and women-led CSOs, UNDP is supporting a shared effort to strengthen their capacities, safety, and leadership.

More than 20 leaders from six organizations came together to exchange knowledge, build solidarity, and deepen skills on risk management, mental well-being, environmental law, climate action, and advocacy. Beyond learning, the process fostered a community of practice—grounded in mutual support and collective action.

The focus now is on turning these tools into real impact—strengthening organizations, amplifying advocacy, and supporting communities on the frontlines of climate and environmental challenges.

UNDP remains committed to standing with women environmental defenders as partners in driving inclusive, resilient, and rights-based development.

[𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞] We’re supporting communities transition to digital government services through the 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲-𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗟𝗲𝗔𝗣𝗦) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, in partnership with UNDP. 🌐

In Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur, more residents are now registering on the LeAPS Portal, making it easier and more convenient to apply for Business Permits, Birth Registration, Zoning Permits, and other essential services—all online.

One newly registered user shared:

Across developing countries, rising debt burdens and high borrowing costs continue to constrain investments in development, climate action, and economic resilience.

Through the Africa Credit Ratings Initiative, UNDP and partners support countries to strengthen transparency, coordination, and engagement with sovereign credit rating processes.

As part of this effort, African government officials are engaging with the Philippines as a practical case study—drawing lessons from its experience in achieving and sustaining investment-grade status through sound macroeconomic management, stronger institutions, and improved governance.

Over the study tour, the delegation will engage with key Philippine institutions—including the Department of Finance(DOF), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas(BSP), Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA), and Department of Budget and Management (DBM)—in a two-way exchange on what worked, what can be adapted, and how to strengthen sovereign credit profiles.

Organized with support from the Japan - The Government of Japan and AfriCatalyst, this study tour provides a platform for practical peer learning to advance country-led solutions and expand fiscal space for sustainable development. 🌏

In Basilan communities, real transformation through local action is driving progress. 🌱

More than 2,700 households have benefited from the 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗠 (𝗔𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗥𝗘) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁.

Through the commitment of local government and strengthened participation of community members, 1,323 small arms and light weapons (SALW) have been turned in, paving the way for safer and more peaceful neighborhoods. With support from the Japan - The Government of Japan🇯🇵 and multi-sectoral partners, the project helped improve well-being and advance economic opportunities.
