Caritas Manila, a prominent humanitarian organization, marked a significant milestone during the 2023 Online Kairos & Annual Recognition with the theme "๐๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ถ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ถ๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ท๐ข๐ฏ๐ต ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐บ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐บ - ๐๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐ฅ, ๐๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ต, ๐๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐บ". The event took place virtually via Zoom today, September 23, 2023, allowing attendees to participate from various locations across the Philippines.
The term "Kairos" signifies the graduation of scholars from the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP), a flagship educational initiative by Caritas Manila.
The event brought together a gathering of college graduates from diverse fields and degrees, hailing from different colleges and universities from various partner dioceses in the country. Alongside the YSLEP scholars, undergraduate students who had distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievements were also honored.
Members of the newly elected board of trustees of Caritas Manila Scholars Association (CAMASA), headed by Dr. Annabelle Sinlao, president of the association, were also present. In addition, Maribel Palmitos, YSLEP Program Head, the Regional Program Officers from Luzon (Evelyn M. Pilapil), NCR (Telesforo J. Caminsi), Visayas (Marilou S. Cajuyong), and Mindanao (Daniel Castillo), and Rev. Fr. Anton CT. Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila, were also in attendance, adding prestige to the event. Their presence underlined the organization's steadfast commitment to fostering educational opportunities for the poor but deserving Filipino youth.
Furthermore, the event included the participation of coordinators from Caritas Manila Implementing Partners (CMIPs) nationwide, who play a pivotal role in the development of the YSLEP scholars, also called as youth servant leaders (YSLs). Members of the CAMASA joined the virtual gathering as well, reinforcing the sense of community and solidarity that defines Caritas Manila's educational initiatives.
In total, 172 YSLEP scholars are graduates for 2023 who have finished the servant leadership formation and accomplished the required servant leadership engagement and volunteer hours for four years.
The event serves as a testament to Caritas Manila's resilience and adaptability in the face of challenging circumstances, such as those posed by the global pandemic. It highlights the organization's dedication to empowering young leaders and nurturing their commitment to social service and youth servant leadership.
As the YSLEP scholars and academic achievers of 2023 embark on new journeys and endeavors, they carry with them the values and lessons instilled by the YSLEP. The event signifies a collective commitment to education, service, and community, providing inspiration for all and reinforcing the enduring impact of education and support in shaping the future of the Philippines.
The event ended with post-YSLEP and CAMASA orientation as all YSLEP graduates automatically become members of the CAMASA after the graduation.
