Hear their sentiments and deep connection to the river - and how a proposed dam project by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is threatening Nabaoy Watershed and localsโ€™ livelihood.

Surrounding communities and businesses, including Boracay Island, depend on this clean and undisturbed water source.

We understand that renewable energy is the future, but NOT at the cost of risking our only water source and damaging our natural environmental resources in the Northwest Panay Peninsula Park, a declared protected area.

San Miguel Corporationโ€™s proposed mega dam project in Aklan has raised concern among residents and environmental advocates.

Communities that rely on the Nabaoy Watershed for clean water, fishing, and ecotourism fear the project could threaten their livelihoods and the local ecosystem. The watershed also serves as the main water source of Boracay Island and Malay.

Not many know that Boracay's only water source, Nabaoy Watershed, is under threat. The local community is calling on you to help save it.

San Miguel Corporation's proposed 300MW hydroelectric dam involves tunneling, blasting, and destructive excavation into the mountains and rivers โ€“ thereby threatening the fragile natural rock formations that store the rainwater supply, as well as disturbing the endemic and endangered flora and fauna in the rainforests.

Moreover, it will displace indigenous peopleโ€™s communities (Ati) and disrupt their lives and traditional practices on ancestral lands.
