โHappy 128th Independence Day, MalMaSenyos! We always know to celebrate our beloved country's Independence Day anually not only across the nation, but also with our fellow Filipinos residing around the globe every 12th of June. But do all of us know why this happened? Who are the people involved, and how did we emancipate our sovereign homeland from the Spaniards?
โIt all dates back to June 12, 1898, when Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo officially proclaimed our independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite. This historic moment marked the end of more than three centuries of Spanish colonial rule, celebrated with the very first unfurling of the Philippine flag and the proud playing of the โMarcha Nacional Filipina.โ
โBut did you know that we didn't always celebrate it on this date? The country initially marked Independence Day every July 4 to commemorate the establishment of the Philippine Republic in 1946. It wasn't until 1964, through the signing of Republic Act 4166, that our national celebration was officially moved back to June 12 to honor our true revolutionary roots.
Muli, Maligayang Araw ng Kayalaan, mga MalMaSenyo! ๐๐ต๐ญ
Lagi't lagi, para sa bayan, para sa kalayaan!
