On May 29, Sustina Lab facilitated its second Sustainability for Founders workshop for the year at the Asian Institute of Management for the Dado Banatao Incubator and other organizations.

Every workshop is different, but each one teaches us something new. This one taught us that sustainability doesn’t always mean coming up with new ideas or chasing novelty to be effective. Sometimes, it means taking a step back to recover and be fully present to serve the next day.

We had a cohort of 26 strong-minded, dedicated founders who showed us what it means to lead and show up for your organization.

Thank you, as always, to all our participants for your time and energy. We look forward to being accountability partners and speaking to you again in 30 days! 🫡

For Filipino photographer and multidisciplinary artist Gab Mejia, water has long been a source of stories. In his latest project, Mejia turns inward, drawing from personal memory to examine the intersections of memory, colonial maritime cartography, and rising seas across the Philippine archipelago.

“Sea level rise is slow, almost imperceptible, making it difficult to visualize, he said. Hence for Mejia, giving language or visual understanding on climate change has been a constant effort.”

White Water is part of the 2nd edition of FOTO Bali’s International Photography Festival, which runs from June 3 to July 12 at Nuanu Creative City in Bali, Indonesia.

📣 Calling all circular organizations based in the Philippines!

Sustina is accepting applications for its award-winning Circular Solutions Map, an initiative that recently won the Climate Culture Journalism Innovation Grant by climateXchange, presented by Syli UK and the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

The Circular Solutions Map is an interactive map that integrates the Philippines’ database of circular solutions onto a living, story-driven platform. It addresses the growing interest in environmentally-friendly materials, partners, and suppliers, with a directory of businesses that can provide them.

Did you know that your favorite leafy green vegetable can also clean your water? 🌿

Researchers from São Paolo State University and the University of Edinburgh have recently published a study identifying the ability of malunggay seeds to remove 98% of microplastics from drinking water.

Malunggay, also known as Moringa oleifera, is a leafy vegetable commonly found in South and Southeast Asia. It is known as the “tree of life” or “miracle tree” because of its medicinal, industrial, and agricultural uses.

For over 20 years, the Guttman’s Stream Frog lived a quiet, anonymous life. Until scientists rediscovered it again in 2018.

Rediscoveries like this give researchers hope that nature can still recover—when given a chance to thrive under the right conditions. ✨

From a rare amphibian to a flower species lost for over 130 years, meet the remarkable species that have recently re-emerged in the Philippines.

Did you know that the Dinagat Bushy-tailed Cloud Rat was documented in 1975, then didn't reveal itself again until 2012?

An animal or plant species can be considered "lost" if it has not been observed in the wild for 10 years, but still has the potential to be rediscovered.

The Philippines has the greatest concentration of unique species per unit area in the world. But with so many of those species under threat, many of them have been lost.

When the conditions are right, sometimes they show up.
