The UMak Office of the Student Regent (OSR) opens its doors to every Heron through the upcoming Student Consultations—an avenue created to listen, understand, and bring the student experience closer to the heart of student governance.

Through these consultations, we hope to create a space where Herons can freely share their perspectives and engage in dialogue grounded in the realities of our student community. Your participation allows us to see beyond policies and numbers and understand the people and experiences behind them.

Due to the prevailing weather conditions and consecutive class suspensions, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 will be postponed. The limited time brought by these circumstances has also affected the completion of necessary preparations, making it difficult to ensure that the event is conducted as planned.

The 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 and 𝗨𝗠𝗮𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 recognize that the safety and well-being of all participants and organizers must come first. With the ongoing 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁 affecting transportation and students' ability to travel safely, proceeding with the event may pose unnecessary risks. To all concerned CCIS students, the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 is issuing a memorandum regarding the 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗙𝗲𝗲 to clarify recent concerns and provide accurate information on its purpose, voluntary nature, and the protection of students who choose not to pay.

The memorandum also outlines the student council's commitment to the proper, transparent, and accountable use of student membership funds, with the 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱–𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 provided for reference. On August 13, 2026, the CCIS Student Council and UMak Computer Society, together with the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, and the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, brought freshmen together at the UMak Auditorium for 𝗨𝗠𝗮𝗸 𝗖.𝗔.𝗥.𝗘.𝗦. (𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲) — a seminar on cyber safety, online security, and a walkthrough of the student handbook. 🔐

Kicking things off, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗣𝗶𝗼 𝗝𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻, 𝗠𝗕𝗔, 𝗝.𝗗. (Director, CDPRM), gave an insightful talk on cyber libel, cyber safety, and data privacy. Next up, 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗘𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇, 𝗠𝗜𝗧 (Program Chair, IT), walked everyone through 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 (𝗦.𝗔.𝗙.𝗘.), plus a live demo on checking for data breaches. Wrapping up the day, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘅 𝗕. 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗼 (Director, CSFD) ran through the student handbook and shared important reminders on student formation and discipline. The organization would also like to extend its grateful appreciation to our ever-hardworking 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗯𝗮 for his continuous support. 💻 📖

Together, these discussions and reminders help keep our freshmen informed, secure, and disciplined, both on and off campus. 🛡️
