Verse of the Day

Isaiah 40:31 emphasizes that those who wait on the Lord—meaning those who trust in Him and place their hope in His timing and power—will receive renewed strength. The imagery of soaring like eagles, running without weariness, and walking without fainting reflects the empowerment that God gives to those who depend on Him, even in the most difficult of times.

Freedom that Honors God

In 1 Corinthians 10:23-33, Paul reminds me about the principle of freedom and my responsibility in Christ. He emphasizes that while christians/disciples all have freedom in many things, we should prioritize the edification/building up of others and glorifying God in all our actions, even if it means denying oneself and sacrificing our own freedom. It's about balancing personal freedoms with the welfare of others and the honor of God.

God gave me freedom to choose/how I should live my life, correct! But, i should not abuse that freedom to live in the flesh/in sin. Paul, talked about this in Galatians 5:13-14 "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love."

My freedom as a christian is still bounded by God's will, His commands and His standard that I am to obey and live out. After all this is what I committed to God when I accepted and made Jesus my Lord and savior. It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me. Therefore, although I am free as a Christian it is expected of me to always choose what is edifying, what builds up and basically doing only everything that honors and glorifies God.

Where have I been using my freedom? For good of others and for God's glory? or for my own good/selfish intentions/plans?

It is true that choosing what pleases God or choosing to do good for others is not easy. But as Christs ambassadors, we are expected to always choose God and choose others highly than ourselves. For this is my calling. The call for me is to do all things for the glory of God. ‭1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV‬
[31] "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." Although in context this is talking about food...what the Corinthian church should and should not eat. In principle, this can also be applied to everything that I do Whether at work, at home, at church, in my finances, interactions/relationships... Everything should be done with excellence as aligned always with God's will and His commands.

So everyday and not just today, I need to always align my actions with what pleases God by asking these questions:

Does my action honor God?
Is my choice godly and full of integrity?
Does this action reflect God in my life as other people see me? Will this action draw people to God?

Is this beneficial for others? Does it edify and build up?

Memory Verse:
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV‬
[31] "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Repentance From Complacency and Apathy

Key Scriptures:

Malachi 4

In context, the Israelites during this time are in a state of spiritual apathy (lack of interest), disobedience, and unfaithfulness towards God. They became complacent in their relationship with God and were neglecting their duties and commitments to God.

So Malachi admonishes them for their lack of reverence/respect for God and ungodliness.

Despite Israelites falling short, Malachi also presented out hope for their redemption and restoration IF they turn back to God in repentance and obedience.

The message of hope for God's people during this time will come through a prophet "John the baptist" who will pave the way for the Messiah/Jesus.

This emphasizes the restoration and healing that awaits those who will fear God and follow His commands. It fortells a future where the wicked will be trampled upon by good/by the righteous.

The state of the church in Malachi is not that different to probably where God's church is in our generation. We indeed have grown complacent in our worship, duties, and commitments to God. Malachi gave us a warning, an admonishment to snap out of our apathy and complacency and to repent/return to God.
Am I in the same state as the Israelites? Apathetic? Complacent? Disobedient?

We are also being encouraged by reminding us of the hope we have in Jesus and victorious future that lies ahead if we stand firm and remain obedient to God and His word. God wants us to take action and advance His victorious kingdom to more people. Let us not forget why we are here on earth and the calling he has bestowed upon us. Let us rekindle the fire in us, be led again by the Spirit and make Jesus the absolute Lord of our lives again so we can carry out the purpose and life God have planned/willed and laid out for us.

Memory Verse:

‭Malachi 4:2 NIV‬
[2] But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.

The Commissioning of Joshua

Key Scripture: Joshua 1

After the death of Moses, God commissioned Joshua who back then was Moses assistant to lead the Israelites in their conquest towards the promised land. This marks the start of Joshua’s leadership as Moses’ chosen successor.

As Moses’ assistant, I am sure Joshua knows the weight of the position that he was commissioned to. It’s a big responsibility that involve God’s people. So, I am guessing the pressure is definitely on. Although it was not mentioned in the scripture how Joshua responded to God’s commissioning, a normal person would normally feel the pressure when handed over with a big responsibility.

What God did was to reassure Joshua that He is with Him where ever he goes. Just as God was with Moses. God’s assurance strengthens Joshua's confidence and puts importance on God's guidance and its role in his leadership.

God also instructed Joshua to be strong and be courageous not only once but thrice… Usually when the God repeats words, God wants to give emphasis on that. My take is that God for sure knows how big of a responsibility the task He commissioned Joshua. God wants to encourage Joshua to stand firm and hold into His commands/meditate on His words (day and night) and carefully do according to the law/His words. That in his dependence on God’s law, commands, and words, they will be made prosperous and successful by God. When God promises something, He sure fulfills them.

How reliant am I in God and His words? Do I carefully DO/live out God’s commands/words in my life right now?

This serves as a powerful reminder of God's faithfulness to His people and His provision for their future as they follow His commands. We have an awesome/powerful God and He wants us to depend/rely on Him in anything/everything that we do in life.

God wants to fulfill His purpose, His plans and promises with US! And this will not always be easy, that's why we are encouraged by God today to Be Strong and Be Courageous in whatever life journey we are treading now. He wants us to fully surrender to Him, trust His lead and obey His commands.

A Living Stone and A Holy People

Key Scripture:

1 Peter 1:1-12

Context:
This letter is addressed to the early Christian communities scattered throughout Asia Minor. In this passage Peter addresses the following:

Renouncing Sin and Growing in Salvation (1 Peter 2:1-3)
With a strong exhortation to the disciples/christians, Peter urged them rid themselves of ALL malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander. He wants them to turn away from sin instead to crave for pure spiritual milk which is the Word of God so that they may grow in their salvation.

Living Stones (1 Peter 2:4-8)
In these verses Peter, used a metaphor of living stones to describe the disciples/Christians and that we are all being built into a spiritual house where Jesus is the cornerstone. He emphasizes the role of Jesus as the foundation in our lives in which everyone will depend and be based upon. Where the call for every disciple is to be holy, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus and to obey His word. That having faith in Jesus means He will not be ashamed of us in the last day.

A Chosen People (1 Peter 2:9-10)
Peter here reminded the disciples/christians how set apart we are. That we are chosen, meaning hand picked by God. We are not an after thought. As a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His possession the call is for us to “proclaim the excellencies of God who called us into His wonderful light” through our transformed lives by doing what is good and what is pleasing to Him. That we are God’s people now, we are no longer our own nor citizens of this world. Our allegiance now is in God alone. We ought to live our lives that reflect His glory

Conduct in the World (1 Peter 2:11-12)
Finally, in verse 11-12 Peter gives an instruction to the disciples to abstain from sinful desires and to live honorable lives among the Gentiles. That as Christians/disciples we are ought to set a good example so that people may see our good deeds/works and glorify God in return.

To summarize, Peter emphasizes our important role to the society, to the sphere of influence we belong to. As a disciple, this should be our identity in Christ. This is what is expected of us to live lives that reflect the values, convictions, faith and the heart of Jesus our cornerstone. We now live a dark corrupt world now, and there is a possibility that we get corrupted as well. But today, we are given a warning, a reminder and an encouragement on how we should live our lives as disciples. Today, I decided to reflect on how I have been living my life.

Have I been reflecting the glory of God in my life?
Is Christ still the cornerstone of my life?
When people see me now, will they see the goodness of God in me and glorify Him?
Am I making every effort to live holy and pleasing life before God?

Walking in God

Key Scripture: Ephesians 5

We now live in an evil dark world. Paul knew it even thousand years ago, that’s why he urged the disciples to Walk in God’s love in Ephesians 5 :1-21.
Important Key Points in Ephesians 5:1-21 that every disciples/Christian should live by:
Imitating God in Love (Ephesians 5:1-2): Paul begins by urging believers/disciples to imitate God as His beloved children and walk in love. Paul gave the example of how Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as an atonement/ransom so that we will all be reconciled to God. This is the kind of love God wanted me to have. Sacrificial…Benevolent…Has genuine concern for the well-being of others…Not Self-seeking.
Is this the kind of love that I exhibit now? Is my love the same kind as God’s?

In what ways I can imitate God’s love today?

Walking in the Light (Ephesians 5:3-14): Paul in this scriptures addresses the need for every believers to walk in the light and avoid the works of darkness. For when we all become disciples, we where called out of darkness into His wonderful light. Therefore we ought not to live like someone who lives in darkness. Paul warns us against immorality, impurity, greed, obscenity, and foolish talk, emphasizing the importance of living as children of light and exposing the deeds of darkness. As children of God, we are to be light shining in this dark world. We should live by example to those who are in darkness and not be partnerss with them. As someone who is in the light, what is good what is right and what is true should manifest in our life. We are to always discern what pleases God.

Am I constantly walking in the light? Is there any darkness in my life right now that I need to expose?

In what ways I can walk in the light today?

Living Wisely (Ephesians 5:15-21): Paul encourages believers to look carefully on how we walk. We should live not as unwise but to live wisely, making every effort to “live to please God” and understanding His will. The call is for us disciples not to be foolish instead be filled with the Spirit, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

The wise man knows God and obeys him. Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” If we are going to live wise lives, we must worship and obey God.

Am I living wisely as a disciple? As Jesus representative, do I walk carefully and represent Him as I should?

In what ways I can live wisely today?

Let us walk in God today. This our call. This is what we are created to do and commanded to live.

A HEALTHY CHURCH

Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:12-31

As a church we are one body with many parts. Each part regardless of it’s function, its strengths, its weakness are one and should be treated equally/of importance. No one is indispensable nor less honorable. In the eyes of God we are equal and are all special.

Like any part of the body, we all have important roles to play. If parts of the body will not function in accordance to their assigned roles, the body will weaken therefore will not be functional. Just like a church will not function the way it was intended by God unless all members allow the Spirit to be at work in their lives into doing God’s good work and in obedience.

Collectively we should reflect who God is and what he was done. For in each of us lies the same Spirit that enable us to function and to live like Jesus. As a disciple and member of God’s church, I have a unique and impotant role to play in building up and advancing God’s kingdom/Church.

1 Cor. 12:18 Tells us that God himself “ARRANGED” the members in the body/church. Each one of us is well curated/chosen by God and assigned to the churches we belong today. It is not an after thought nor an accident. You are part of that church for a purpose and a reason.
God as an amazing “Project Manager” always puts together a team whom He knows will complement each other. Whose strengths and weaknesses will even and balance out the team.

As a disciple/member of God’s church we all needed to find our INTENDED ROLE/FUNCTION in the body or else the church will not function as intended as well. For when one part suffers, the body suffers.

Parts of the body that doesn’t function weakens, therefore every member (young and old) should ACTIVELY fulfill their assigned/intended roles. If every disciples will do/fulfill their roles the church will be healthy. Each member will glow and shine where ever God places you in His church. We will all become bright lights that will illuminate this dark broken world we all live in now.

Do I know my assigned role in God’s church? If not I need to seek it, pray and ask God to reveal it

Am I fulfilling the assigned role God intended for me? Am I functioning as intended by God in His church? Find ways where you can serve in the church and fulfill your role in bulding it/making it grow.

God’s Steadfast Love and Compassion

Key Scriptures:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26 It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Lamentations 3:22, ESV

“He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. 19 He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:18-19

Is there anyone in my life right now like God?

NONE!

When I look at God’s word above, I can’t help but feel amazed and in awe. Imagine this: For an imperfect/sinner who is a speck in this vast universe He created, He is willing to go above and beyond to demonstrate His love and compassion for me. I don’t know about you but thinking about this just blows my mind. Steadfast…Faithful…Kind…Compassionate…Slow to anger/Does not retain His anger…Patient…A God who pardon’s our sins…not wanting us to perish but to come to repentance and live a life with Him in heaven…

The Lamentation scripture was during a time where Jeremiah and Israel felt they where forsaken by God because of their sins on top of his physical affliction. In Lamentations 3:7-9 speaks of how Jeremiah was feeling at that time — like a hopeless prisoner. But then, during this trying time in Jeremiah’s life and the Israelites he was reminded of God’s steadfast love, mercy and faithfulness. God’s love towards people NEVER ceases for it is new every morning.

When I find myself struggling with fear, discouragement, loneliness, pain, or grief, reminding myself of the unwavering love of God lifts my spirits up, pushes me to persevere and not give up.
In moments when my faith weakens, it's important to always keep in mind God’s enduring, unchanging, and unwavering love.

How loyal God’s love to me is? I am reminded of this lyric of a song that resonates with me multiple times in my life.

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God”

If this is the kind of love I receive from God everyday, I should also do the same and reciprocate this kind of love. Not only to God but everyone in this world who needs God.

What can I do to reciprocate God's love for me?

22/01/2024

The world was created and was set in motion because of God’s word…from nothing He created everything with His word. (Genesis 1:1-31). Another scripture that tells us the universe being created by the word of God would be in Hebrews 11:3. In Hebrews 11:3 (ESV), it says here “3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” …and there are actually multiple scriptures that speak of the word of God. This should actually not be surprise to all who believed in God. We know that it is the power behind everything that exist today. It is the “power” that sustains the whole world and universe! The “power” that made us new creations in Christ! The “power” that is transforming us into the likeness of Christ everyday! The “power” that saves us who believe in Him.

*God’s Word Has the Power to lead us/people to Salvation

Romans 1:16 (ESV): 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

*God’s Word is Alive and Active

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV): 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

*God’s Word has the power to Build us up

Acts 20:32 “And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

*God’s Word has the power to Equip us for Service

2 Tim 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

*God’s Word has the power to give us Wisdom

Psalm 119:130 (ESV): "The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple."

As a disciple, does the word of God has these powers manifesting or evident in my life right now? Does it have the same power as the Bible revealed to us? Or has its power weakened already. If the word of God doesn’t change you anymore,
Indeed, how powerful God’s word is. It has a transformative power that changes those who live in it, if handled correctly and if lived out properly. It can save anyone who believes in it. The kind of saving that is not temporary but eternal. God’s written word is the manual for true Christian living that defines reality for us, and teaches us how to walk righteously before God our Father. This will equip me to live up to the calling/purpose God placed in me. For it also has the power to accomplish God’s purpose as mentioned in Isaiah 55:8–11 (ESV): 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

God’s word will never lose it’s power. It will always succeed, it will always prosper, it will always be transformative — That if I remain in God’s word it will not return empty. I need to invest of studying God’s word. Be intentional in seeking God’s truth. Be hungry and thirsty for His word on a daily basis and live it out in my life.

“YOU DON’T CHANGE GOD’S WORD TO FIT YOUR LIFE, YOU FIT YOUR LIFE INTO GOD’S WORD.”

The Bible gives Us the Exact Will of God

The main responsibility and 1st priority of disciples is to know and to obey the will of God. When it comes to obedience to God’s will, the Bible is very much clear about this. This is a black or white situation/a yes or no thing. There is no middle ground when it comes to obeying God’s will. It is either you DO or you Don’t.

In Jesus teachings in Matthew 7:21–23, Jesus is recorded as saying: “Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Jesus was very clear to set His standard when it comes to righteousness. The standard is perfection —- but we all know no one can really be perfect on his own. We needed Jesus to be our righteousness for us. But even though Jesus already became our righteousness we shouldn’t abuse that and continue sinning. We need to make every effort to add to our faith godliness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, brotherly and sisterly compassion and love. Since when we made Jesus Lord of our lives, we have clothed Him in our daily lives. Just as Jesus is obedient to the will of His Father we also need to be obedient as well by living out His life.

How can we live out Jesus then and live up to God’s will?

By studying the Bible. This is not just reading it but practicing it out in our lives. For the only true source of God’s will can only be found on the Bible. Most “Christians” these days look at the churches traditions thinking if they allow themselves to be consumed buy religiousness it will be enough to say they are doing God’s will, while some look into their feelings thinking it should feel right or thinking if we do good that should be enough BUT we all need to realize that ONLY THE BIBLE GIVES US THE EXACT WILL OF GOD.

Matthew 28:18-20 - Making disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to OBEY everything.
1 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-Breathed and by allowing it to correct our living and way of life it will very useful in godly living/doing God’s good works
Psalm 119:5 - Obeying God’s decrees

What does this tell us now? That we all need God’s word for us to spiritually Grow.

We need to appreciate and value the importance of God’s word in our Christian living. Dig deep into the relevance of God’s word in our daily lives. We need to feed our bodies and our sould with spiritual food that is God’s word for this helps us to grow spiritually mature. Because if we do not feed our Spirit with God’s word, our faith weakens and later on we will die spiritually.

Hosea 4:6-9
“…my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests;because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.”

If we want to grow and remain faithful, we need to make every effort to desire the knowledge, the wisdom and the will of God in the Bible. We should desire to be hungry and thirsty for God’s word. Just like Peter’s challenge to us in 1 Peter 2:1-2 “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” We need to invest deeply in reading the word of God and making every effort to reflect/manifest that in our lives. Our obedience is the fruit of our love for God and His words.

Do I still crave for God’s word every day? The type of craving where you can’t live without it?

If not I need to repent. We all need to repent..Jesus understood the assignment. He knew the value and importance of His Father’s will. In John 4:13-14, “Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” If we remain in God and His words remain in us, we will be reaping a reward far more greater and valuable than anything in this world. A reward that never perishes and is eternal.

👑Reminder:

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled”

Hope in Jesus

Psalm 62:5-6
"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”

The biblical definition of hope is "confident expectation." Hope is a firm assurance regarding things that are unclear and unknown (Romans 8:24-25; Hebrews 11:1, 7).

As a Christian hope is an enduring virtue, without it life loses its meaning. Christian hope is rooted in faith in the divine salvation in Christ (Galatians 5:5). Therefore, if we do not place our trust in Christ certainly we do not have hope. People cannot live without a feeling that things can and will get better.

Hope gives us purpose and a reason to keep going. It sees beyond the obvious and pushes us forward when life gets rough. We run on hope. Specially when situations tend to be more challenging, we need something to look forward to or something to pursue. Psalm 42:11 encourages us that no matter how dark and consumed we are by our situation/challenges we can hope in God to get us through that difficult situation in our lives. That if we hope in God we will be renewed in strength to soar like eagles, not grow weary and not faint. Hope equipped us to endure trials, encourages us to continue praying and it is a joy giver.

Faith and Hope are connected. Faith is the confidence we have in hope.(Heb 11:1) Love is the outward expression of Faith and hope. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Based on the Biblical definition of hope, Is my hope a true Christian hope?

Does my hope motivate me everyday to keep moving forward in life no matter what life throws at us?

Hope exists in the unseen for no one hopes for what he sees. In situations where we experience momentary trials, we are encouraged not to lose heart/endure and fix our eyes on the hope we have in Christ. For if we do not give up, we will be rewarded a crown that lasts far better than gold. This is only made possible by the death of Jesus on the cross.
