🌿 WISDOM FOR THE PEACE OF MIND

What if the peace you’re asking God for is not the absence of problems but the presence of Christ in the middle of them?

“Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:7

There are moments when our minds are overwhelmed, our hearts are restless, and no amount of thinking seems to give us an answer.

So, where do we turn when we cannot control what is happening around us?

God’s wisdom teaches us that peace is not found in having everything figured out. Peace is found in learning to trust the One who holds everything.

✨ Join us as we discover how God’s wisdom can help us quiet our anxious thoughts, surrender what we cannot control, and allow His peace to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Another blessed Day of the Lord our dear brothers and sisters! Today's gospel asks us to reflect on these things:

In the second reading, Paul reminds us how deep and unfathomable the wisdom and ways of God is to the human mind. And in the gospel today, we are reminded that all our understanding is based on what God allows.

Jesus' encounter with his disciples where he asked who do the people and the disciples think He is, and His response to Simon Peter, gives us insight that God often allows wisdom to those who fully place their faith, trust and obedience in Jesus.

Just as He asked his disciples, each of us is also being asked to search inside our hearts and honestly answer "who is Jesus in my life today?"

The first reading and the second part of today's gospel reminds us that God sometimes gives people certain missions and responsibility to lead his flock. Jesus entrusted Peter to be the founder of the Church with a mission to give moral guidance on what aligns and what doesn't with the ways in heaven.

For our brothers in the clergy, today's gospel is a reminder of Jesus' very important mission placed on your shoulders. And for the rest of us, this a reminder that Jesus gifted us with an institution He entrusted to guide us towards Him --- we should all go to Church to hear His words.

On a more personal level, the second part of the gospel also gives us insight that when God allows us His wisdom, He also places in us a mission to disciple His wisdom to others.

As you rest in His words today, we invite you to reflect:
How much of my faith have I fully entrusted to Jesus and How have I been discipling for the wisdom He has so far granted me?

✨ WISDOM IN AGE — PART 2 ✨

One of the beautiful things about our journey in faith is that we never stop learning and we don’t learn alone. ❤️

This Wednesday, we continue our Wisdom in Age journey as a community. Beyond the foundational learning from the video and reflections, we look forward to the excitement of sharing our own experiences, raising our questions, listening to one another, and discovering wisdom through the answers and insights of our spiritual leaders.

As we journey through the different seasons of life, God continues to entrust us with special gifts, experiences, wisdom, and graces not for us to keep to ourselves, but to bless and build up others.

🌱 What beautiful things might He still be preparing for you in this season of your life?

In Matthew 15:21–28, the Canaanite woman demonstrates the power of persistent prayer by refusing to give up when Jesus tests her with silence, continuing to plead with a heart full of hope. Her deep humility shines through as she willingly accepts the lowest place at the table, knowing that even a single "crumb" of God's power is more than enough to deliver and save her suffering child. Ultimately, Jesus reveals His inclusive love by looking past cultural and ethnic boundaries, proving that true faith matters far more than a person's background and that His life-changing, healing grace is freely open to anyone who calls upon His name.

How can you humbly bring your deepest struggles to God in persistent prayer while actively sharing His barrier-breaking love with everyone around you?

A simple daily challenge:
Each day, intentionally cross one small barrier ~ talk to someone you usually overlook, forgive someone, listen without judging, help someone in need, or pray for someone who is difficult to love.

That is how we move from simply knowing about God's love to actually becoming instruments of His love.

Here's a recap of our discussion on Wisdom of Age from our Wednesday Bible Study session last night.

According to Doctor Jeff Cavins, there is a concerning growing trend where the elderly are seen as liabilities rather than as assets.

But this doesn't fit in with God's design for us. As Christians we are called to see the elderly, not as burdens, but as treasures enriched by wisdom and refined by having experienced most of the seasons in life.

The elderly are to be honored, respected and cared for. And younger generations, are encouraged to talk to them and learn from the wealth of insights and sound guidance that they bring.

We also talked about growing older and wiser. We learned that wisdom is the daughter of experience. How wise a person becomes in his senior years is the result of how he lived his younger years. Being planted in God's words early on cultivates immense wisdom in later years.

Finally we learned that old age does not mean losing purpose. In fact it opens new doors for second chances to share God's wisdom to your grand children and to the younger generations in general. We are led to a higher purpose in old age.

And God gave us the gift of our stories to share to the younger ones, and them to the next generations, so that we can pass on His love, His good deeds, His words and His commandments in order for future generations to know Him and have faith in Him.

What if growing older isn’t about losing but about becoming?

As we journey through life, our understanding of success, purpose, relationships, and even ourselves changes.

The world often tells us that aging means losing our strength, our opportunities, our beauty, our relevance, and eventually our purpose.

But what if God sees it differently?

What if every season of our life is an invitation to grow wiser, deeper in faith, richer in love, and closer to Him?

💡 Wisdom in Age is our next journey in the FBSK Wisdom series, where we will discover God’s wisdom for growing older not simply adding years to our lives, but allowing God to add meaning, purpose, joy, and grace to those years.

To accomplish truly “great things”, things of eternal value that glorify God, we need this holistic approach. We must dream His dreams for us, plan with the wisdom He provides, act in obedience to His Word, and, above all, trust in His unfailing love and power to work through us.

Three things that today's gospel remind me about:

1. The power of our Lord and our God
In today's gospel we again see Jesus doing things that are impossible to the human mind - walking on water, and making strong winds obey him. This is a reminder that Jesus is God and is capable of things beyond what our minds can conceive. I hear wise mentors often say in their prayer "with You, nothing is impossible Lord" and this is a call for us to live our lives guided by this wisdom. We are but human and Jesus is God. And when it comes to dealing with the challenges that come to our lives, we do what our talents allow us to influence but for all other things outside of our control, with complete trust we let go and let God.

2. The caring nature of God.
In the gospel today we encounter these events: Jesus reassuring the scared disciples saying, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” and later on when Peter started to sink in water, Jesus was there immediately to catch him. These are reminders that we have a powerful God that is always with us and cares for us. So we must always take courage and trust.

3. Our weak and slow to trust nature as humans
The disciples were frightened because they thought there was a ghost in the lake and even after Jesus already reassured and said "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid", Peter continued to show doubt and tested “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” And later on when he was actually already miraculously walking on water, he got distracted by the strong winds and started to doubt again so he begun to sink. To put even more context, remember that prior to this event the disciples have already witnessed Jesus countless times doing Godly miracles like healing the sick and multiplying bread and fish. This is a reminder that I as human, am weak and how easy it is for me to forget the countless blessings that Jesus has already bestowed; how easy it us for us to get distracted when the "strong winds" in our lives start to shake our faith. It is easy to praise Jesus when the gifts abound, but in the stressful times we begin to question, "Are You really with me, are You really true?" But notice how compassionate and how extremely patient our God is with us. Despite being doubted and tested by no other than his disciples, He patiently allows it and gives them the time to form their strong faith foundations. He continues to be with them and catch them when they need Him, just as when Peter cried "Lord Save me!"

Hearing today's gospel, what message from God did He plant in your heart today?
What steps can you take starting next week to ensure that you and our friends in the community become aware of our distractions and that our faith in Jesus grow to unshakeable depths that no "strong winds" can test it?
