MBC Signs Commitment to Strengthen Transparency and Accountability in Public Procurement

Makati Business Club joined government agencies, civil society organizations, development partners, and private sector representatives in signing a commitment to strengthen transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public procurement.

Effective procurement systems help ensure that public resources are used responsibly and that government programs, services, and infrastructure are delivered more efficiently. The initiative supports the implementation of the New Government Procurement Act through greater access to procurement information, stronger oversight mechanisms, improved institutional capacity, and digital procurement systems.

MBC looks forward to working with stakeholders across government, civil society, and the private sector to advance transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of public funds.

UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE MONTH, BUT UNDEREMPLOYMENT SURGES IN APRIL 2026

The number of unemployed Filipinos increased to 2.41 million in April 2026, pushing the unemployment rate up to 4.7% from 5.0% (2.58 million workers) recorded in March 2026.

Meanwhile, underemployment rose to 15.2% (7.41 million workers) higher than the 12.3% (6.03 million workers) recorded in March 2026. This is also higher than the 14.6% (7.09 million workers) rate recorded in April 2025.

The services sector remained the country's largest source of jobs, accounting for 62.3% of total employment, followed by agriculture (19.4%) and industry (18.3%). Year-on-year, the strongest employment gains came from accommodation and food service activities (+510,000), manufacturing (+259,000), and transportation and storage (+189,000).

The largest increase in employment month-on-month was concentrated in agriculture, retail trade, accommodation and food services, and construction. The increase in agricultural employment may partly reflect seasonal hiring during the harvest and planting cycle.
