Quality Care Begins by Listening.

World Mental Health Day, observed globally yesterday, October 10, highlights mental health and mobilizes action to ensure people can access the support and care they need. For 2026, WHO highlights “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change,” emphasizing the importance of meaningfully involving people with lived experience in decisions that affect their mental health.

Quality plays an important role in this work. Quality mental health services are person-centered, accessible, responsive, safe, and continuously improved based on the needs and experiences of those they serve.

Listening is therefore more than an act of compassion—it is a quality practice. When organizations listen to people, use their feedback as evidence, and translate insights into better services and systems, quality becomes a pathway to more humane and responsive care.
