Happiest birthday to our master diver and wave rider, Ronald Pansit 🏄🏽🤿🌊

In every wave you ride and every dive you take, there is purpose, care, and a quiet kind of bravery that uplifts our whole community. Your steady presence feels like an anchor to us — reliable, grounding, and strong.

But what makes you even more admirable is the life you build beyond the shore. A devoted and present father, raising three beautiful souls with the same patience, gentleness, and love you offer to Mother Nature. The way you protect the reefs mirrors the way you protect your family — with heart, intention, and devotion.

May this year return to you the kindness you give and the goodness you plant wherever you go. The ocean is better because of you, and so are we. 🤙🏽✨

In our fieldwork conversations, we often hear Manang Delailah speak about “hiya.” She shares how she would rather adjust herself than inconvenience others — choosing quiet sacrifice over causing discomfort. It is in these simple moments that we see how deeply she carries respect and care for her community.

In Filipino culture, hiya is more than shyness. As described by psychologist J. Bulatao, it is an active and selfless restraint of one’s personal wants for the sake of the community — an inner respect rooted in belonging. It reflects the understanding that we move not only as individuals, but as part of something greater.

This spirit closely mirrors pakikisama, where community takes precedence over self. And in many ways, this is how Manang Delailah leads — quietly, patiently, and with humility. She leads not by standing above others, but by walking alongside them, listening first, and offering herself in service. Her strength lies in her gentleness, her willingness to yield so others may feel seen, heard, and supported.

Through the years, Manang Delailah has shown us that leadership can be soft yet steadfast. Her humility, generosity, and commitment to both community and environment continue to guide and inspire our work in FEED. She reminds us that caring for mother nature also means caring for people, relationships, and shared responsibility.

On your special day, we celebrate you — a woman whose quiet strength nurtures both land and community. May the forest always be with you, Manang Delailah, just as you have been with us through every season of this shared journey. 🌿 love, your FEED family.

ICTC Philippines Plants 500 Native Trees to Help Restore the Sierra Madre

Laguna, Philippines — September 30, 2025. With the onset of the “BER” months, the Laguna Quezon Land Grant in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains came alive with the spirit of environmental stewardship as volunteers from the ICTC Philippines gathered for a reforestation activity. Under the warm sun and cool mountain breeze, the group celebrated nature and collective action, welcomed by clear skies despite the Sierra Madre’s unpredictable microclimate.

The volunteers successfully planted 500 seedlings of native Philippine trees, including 30 Balitbitan, 300 Kalumpit, and 170 Lipote. These native species strengthen forest resilience, provide habitats and food for wildlife, and preserve ecological balance. Unlike exotic trees, they are adapted to local soil and climate, resist pests and diseases, and help create a self-sustaining environment. Reforestation also helps heal areas affected by illegal logging, restore soil and water systems, and mitigate climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide.

Before planting, Diane Penales of FEED, Inc. led a short morning exercise, and Forester Rey Lorida emphasized the urgency of reforestation while highlighting FEED’s Ridge to Reef program, which restores ecosystems from mountains to coastal reefs. The activity was made possible through the cooperation of ICTC Philippines, FEED, Inc., the Forest Guardians, and the local community, with special thanks to Ms. Rose Bocado and local women who prepared a hearty meal for the volunteers.

Through this meaningful collaboration, ICTC Philippines volunteers demonstrated that environmental restoration is not just about planting trees—it is about nurturing life, resilience, and hope for generations to come.

Finterest Eco-Warriors Join Hands for Environmental Restoration in La Union

Last November 21, 2025, participants from the Cignal TV Finance Group known as Finterest traveled to San Juan, La Union for a meaningful day dedicated to marine and coastal restoration.

The morning began with an engaging introduction by FEED’s Anne Marie Bakker, who spoke about the vital role of corals and emphasized that coral planting is a shared responsibility. Her discussion gave participants a deeper appreciation of the connection between ocean health, community livelihoods, and climate resilience, inspiring them for the day’s activities.

Surf coaches and trained coral propagators from Jongky Surf School then demonstrated how to properly plant coral fragments. Participants, together with children from the Aringay community, proceeded to the shoreline, but large waves from seasonal currents led to the 16 corals being temporarily placed in a safer area until waters are calmer.

The group then went to Baroro to plant 180 mangroves with fisherfolk from the Asosasyon ti Mangalap ken Mannalon Baroro under Manong Jessie’s guidance. Much of the previously planted mangroves had been washed out during Typhoon Uwan, making rehabilitation urgent, but collective action makes the work more impactful.

Children from the Aringay community received school supplies along with a copy of “Bakawan”, a mangrove-themed book—an effort to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards and support their education.

FEED, together with its partners , DMMMSU and the community of fisherfolks extends heartfelt appreciation to the eco-warriors of Finterest. Their time, energy, and willingness to work alongside both nature and the community reflect the true spirit of stewardship.

Through days like these, hope grows—one coral, one mangrove, and one collective action at a time.
