Mapúa PTC CMET Alumni Association Recognized for Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach Clean-Up

The Mapúa PTC College of Maritime Education and Training Alumni Association (MPCAA) was commended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for organizing the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach Coastal Clean-Up, held on January 11, 2026, in partnership with United Filipino Global, an NGO focused on the welfare and concerns of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). This recognition upholds MPCAA’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the long-term rehabilitation of Manila Bay.

Vice President Sara Duterte applauded the efforts of all participating organizations, including the MPCAA.

MPCAA President Arnulfo Neptuno (Class of 2012) emphasized that environmental responsibility remains a core value shared by both the institution and its alumni. “We belong to a community where we believe that every Filipino has a shared responsibility to protect and preserve our environment. As maritime professionals, our connection to the seas goes beyond profession—it is a duty. Through activities like this, we hope to not only contribute directly but also to encourage more of our members, students, alumni, and partners to show up, participate, and take ownership of our role in nation-building and environmental protection,” Neptuno stated.

Dean Anthony Canson Jr. (Class of 2013), MPCAA’s Head of Strategic Communications and Government Relations/Public Affairs, underscored that the initiative is aligned with the organization’s broader sustainability agenda. “This activity forms part of our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which are integrated into our key performance indicators as an organization. Environmental action is not a one-time effort but a continuing responsibility. In line with this, we are also coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for a tree-planting activity that is already in the pipeline,” Canson shared.

Through its participation in the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach Coastal Clean-Up, the MPCAA—together with its alumni and partner organizations—reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and the formation of global maritime professionals who are not only competent but also socially and environmentally responsible citizens. # # #
