A child has the right to live comfortably within the confines of their home, to fill their stomachs with nutritious meals, and to simply play and laugh their hearts out.
The Philippines has already enacted several laws that reflect the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, highlighting the rights of children, like the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.
Unfortunately, many Filipino children are still being trafficked, exploited, and abused. In fact, the Philippines was tagged as the largest known source of OSAEC cases. In recent years, data shows that nearly half a million children were trafficked to produce child sexual exploitation materials (CSAM). The PNP and DSWD also reported thousands of abuse cases.
As we continue to celebrate World Childrenβs Month, we are called to educate ourselves and advocate for childrenβs rights. From recognition to implementation and protection of their rights, letβs stand together for and with the children because every child deserves a safe homeβ a safe world. ππ§Έ
