The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is an international development program that promotes justice, economic opportunity and human dignity through the rule of law. For more than 25 years, and through our work in more than 100 countries, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) and our partners have sought to strengthen legal institutions, to support legal professionals, to foster respect for

human rights and to advance public understanding of the law and of citizen rights. In collaboration with our in-country partners—including government ministries, judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures and civil society organizations—we design programs that are responsive to local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions to pressing rule of law challenges.

Our latest article, American Legal Profession under Attack: Lessons from Abroad discusses Law Day, the rule of law, and the importance of the legal processes that protect our liberty, safeguard fundamental freedoms, and ensure justice.

Through the Justice Defenders program, the American Bar Association Center for Human Rights provided extensive support to legal professionals who have endured similar or even worse political pressures, physical threats, harassments, and prosecutions. In the article, Belarusian lawyer Natalia Matskevich and Polish Judge Monika Frąckowiak share their advice and guidance—based on their lived experiences—about how their American counterparts can counter the growing challenges to the rule of law and judicial independence in the United States.

On this International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, we reflect on the United Nations (UN) Charter and the principles set forth therein to advance across the globe.

For over three decades, the American Bar Association's Center for Global Programs (ABA CGP) has conducted life changing work to advance peace, , and , often for the most marginalized and underrepresented groups in society. From advancing the rights of vulnerable communities in to peacefully exercise their right to freedom of religion, to advancing truth, reconciliation and reparations processes for victims of past atrocities in and , ABA CGP’s work has advanced a shared vision of building a more peaceful world amidst even the most challenging of circumstances.
