We Unreservedly Condemn the Atrocious Shooting Incident in Barangay Dacumuya, Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur – A Paramount Concern for Bangsamoro Youth

We are profoundly appalled and deeply aggrieved by the senseless and brutal shooting that claimed the lives of promising young scholars of Quranic studies in Barangay Dacumuya, Mamasapano, Maguindanao del Sur last night February 25, 2026. This catastrophic event constitutes a grave affront to the collective aspirations of Bangsamoro youth, who are steadfastly committed to forging a future anchored in tranquility, erudition, and reciprocal esteem.

These diligent learners were engrossed in the venerable endeavor of cultivating their spiritual and linguistic acumen – a noble pursuit that ought to be safeguarded and fostered, rather than abruptly terminated by wanton aggression. This heinous act of violence is not merely a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and the sanctity of innocent life; it is unequivocally incompatible with the tenets and precepts of Islam. It undermines the foundational aspirations of Bangsamoro youth for a secure milieu conducive to holistic development, and strikes at the very core of our faith and communal ethos, which enshrine the protection of life, the nurturing of the young, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. The safeguarding of our youth’s lives is indispensable, for they are indispensable partners in nation-building – the architects of our collective tomorrow.

We earnestly and urgently exhort the leadership of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F), local leaders of the Province of Maguindanao del Sur, and all concerned stakeholders to undertake immediate and decisive action: to institute a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial inquiry into this incident in Barangay Dacumuya, ensuring that perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice; to implement robust enhanced security protocols for the people throughout Maguindanao del Sur and the broader Bangsamoro region; to address the underlying catalysts of violence through targeted peacebuilding initiatives that are consonant with Islamic principles of equity and conciliation; and to extend unwavering support and succor to the bereaved families during this period of profound sorrow and loss.

Our youth represent the preeminent asset and ultimate hope of Bangsamoro communities. Anchored in the teachings of Islam, which accord inviolable worth to every human life, we must coalesce in solidarity to guarantee that they may mature and flourish within a secure environment, unencumbered by fear or violence. As partners in shaping our nation’s destiny, their safety and well-being must remain our foremost priority.

Open Letter Condemning the Planned Film

To Ruru Karisma, Producer and staffs, Relevant Authorities,

We, the concern Muslim youth of Maguindanao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), write to express our profound and unequivocal condemnation of your planned film, which, from initial glimpses on social media, appears to be not only a misrepresentation of Islamic tenets and values but also an obscene production. This deeply offends and alarms our community. While our Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine are being killed for their Muslim identity, steadfast in their faith, your plan to produce this obscene film constitutes a different kind of attack – one that seeks to kill the spirit of our community.

As Muslim youth from Maguindanao, we view this planned production not merely as a matter of artistic license, but as a deliberate and harmful assault on our faith and cultural heritage. The potential consequences of such obscene misrepresentation are severe and far-reaching, threatening the very foundation of our religious understanding and practice. The very notion of such a production, while our brothers and sisters in Palestine suffer unimaginable violence, is deeply disturbing and morally reprehensible.

The film's anticipated wide reach, especially through social media, poses a grave danger to the moral development of our muslim youth. We fear its obscene and inaccurate portrayal of Islam will not only mislead and misinform but also actively corrupt and harm the minds of impressionable young people. This is not a matter of differing opinions; this is a blatant disregard for decency and religious sensibilities.

Therefore, we demand the immediate cessation of all efforts related to this obscene film's production and distribution. Your disregard for our faith, community, and moral standards is utterly unacceptable. We view this as a serious violation of ethical and religious principles.

We implore our religious leaders—Imams, Ulama, and esteemed scholars, —to publicly denounce this project and offer clear and forceful guidance. We further urge relevant authorities to consider the potential harm and take immediate and decisive action to prevent its creation and dissemination. This is alarming that requires immediate intervention.

The Muslim youth of Maguindanao stand united in defending our faith and culture. We will not tolerate the obscene distortion and manipulation of our beliefs for profit or entertainment, especially while our global community faces persecution and violence. We expect a swift response and a clear commitment to abandoning this deeply offensive and harmful project.

The recent shooting of minor youths in broad daylight in Shariff Aguak municipality is a deeply disturbing and tragic event that demands our immediate attention and action. This senseless act of violence not only took the lives of innocent children but also shattered the sense of security and well-being that should be afforded to all members of our community, especially our most vulnerable citizens.

The fact that this crime occurred in broad daylight, in a public space, underscores the audacity and disregard for human life displayed by the perpetrators.

It is a chilling reminder that no one, regardless of their age or background, is immune to the dangers of violence in our society. This incident should serve as a wake-up call, urging us to confront the systemic issues that contribute to such tragedies.

The loss of young lives is particularly heartbreaking. These children were the future of our community, brimming with potential and dreams. Their lives were cut short by an act of cruelty that has left families and friends devastated.

This tragedy highlights the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address youth violence, including investing in early intervention programs.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON SC's DECISION EXCLUDING THE SULU PROVINCE FROM BARMM REGION

Assalamo Alaykom Warahmatullahi Wabarakutuhu.

The Supreme Court's decision to exclude Sulu from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is a deeply disheartening one for many Bangsamoro youth.

We recognize the historical and cultural significance of the Tausug people within the larger Bangsamoro identity, and their exclusion from the BARMM feels like a missed opportunity for greater unity and progress.

This decision evokes a sense of disappointment and frustration, as it seems to undermine the spirit of inclusivity and self-determination that the Bangsamoro peace process was meant to achieve. The Court's ruling may also have a significant impact on the children and people of Sulu, limiting their access to the developmental programs and services offered by the BARMM government. This could hinder their ability to improve their living standards and achieve a brighter future as a Bangsamoro people.

We urge further the Bangsamoro youth to be calm and remain steadfast in our commitment to unity and solidarity. While we respect the Court's ruling, we hope that future efforts will prioritize the inclusion of all Bangsamoro communities, recognizing the shared history and aspirations that bind us together.
