2 FOREIGN SUSPECTS FALL IN ₱5.8B ILLEGAL DRUG HAUL OFF MINDORO COAST

The Philippine National Police (PNP), in coordination with other security forces, has arrested two foreign nationals believed to be involved in the attempted transport of suspected illegal drugs worth around ₱5.8 billion in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.

Authorities earlier discovered a twin-engine speedboat that ran aground along the shoreline of a coastal barangay while allegedly carrying sacks of white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

Responding personnel recovered 43 sacks of the suspected illegal drugs along with several maritime and communication equipment, including a satellite modem, hand flares, batteries, and safety gear.

Initial reports indicated that two foreign nationals fled toward a nearby mountainous area when authorities approached the vessel, prompting an immediate coordinated police operation involving the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Later that day, joint operatives successfully arrested the two suspects, both Chinese nationals aged 38 and 36, in a barangay in Paluan. They are currently under the custody of PDEA as the investigation continues.

Earlier, security forces also intercepted two Filipino individuals operating a rubber boat who claimed they were hired by an unidentified person to locate and assist the fleeing foreign nationals. Authorities are validating the information as part of the ongoing investigation.

The seized substances will undergo laboratory examination and documentation in coordination with the PDEA to determine their exact composition and quantity.

The operation forms part of the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, aimed at strengthening law enforcement against large-scale drug trafficking, in support of the government’s intensified campaign under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. praised the joint efforts, saying, “Malinaw ang mensahe natin sa mga drug traffickers—hindi kayo makakalusot. Our police and partner agencies are working together to protect our shores and communities. This shows that when we act as one, even large-scale attempts to bring illegal drugs into the country can be stopped.”

He added, “Tuloy-tuloy ang ating operasyon. Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagkakahuli ng mga sangkot kundi sa pagbuwag sa buong network na nasa likod nito. We will pursue every lead until those responsible are held accountable.”

The PNP stressed that investigations continue to determine the full scope of the operation and possible links to international networks, as authorities intensify border and maritime security in line with Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

This accomplishment reflects the PNP’s commitment to Enhanced Managing Police Operations, a key priority of the PNP Focused Agenda, strengthening sustained enforcement against illegal drugs in communities.

“Operations like this show that our law enforcement units are relentless in dismantling drug networks and ensuring accountability,” said PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. "Huwag kayong magkamali: ang batas ay para sa lahat, at hindi namin palalampasin ang sinumang sangkot sa ilegal na droga."

₱2.5-M ILLEGAL MINERAL SHIPMENT INTERCEPTED AT ILIGAN CHECKPOINT

A routine checkpoint turned into a major environmental enforcement win after authorities intercepted an estimated ₱2.5 million worth of suspected copper-bearing mineral ore being transported under questionable documentation on the evening of February 23, 2026, in Iligan City.

The operation, carried out through strengthened inter-agency coordination, reflects the Philippine National Police’s intensified campaign against environmental crimes under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations. Acting on intelligence inputs, operatives flagged a prime mover truck with a container van at a border control point along the national highway.

The vehicle, driven by alias “Nesto,” 36, a Filipino male, with an 18-year-old female passenger, was reportedly transporting cargo from Zamboanga Sibugay bound for Misamis Oriental. During inspection, authorities noted irregularities in the vehicle’s documentation, including the absence of a plate number on the trailer truck.

Verification with environmental authorities later revealed that the cargo declared as “scrap metal” consisted of around 500 sacks of suspected copper-bearing mineral ore.

The estimated market value of the shipment reached ₱2.5 million.

The seized items and the vehicle were secured and turned over to proper authorities for inventory and appropriate disposition in line with government regulations. Investigation is ongoing to determine possible violations of environmental and transport laws.

Chief PNP, PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the operating units and partner agencies for their vigilance.

“Hindi natin hahayaang malusutan ng mga ganitong uri ng ilegal na gawain. Our checkpoints are not mere roadblocks—they are safeguards for our communities and for our natural resources,” PGEN Nartatez said. “Environmental protection is a shared responsibility. When we stop illegal transport of mineral resources, we are protecting not only government revenue but the future of our people.”

He also reminded those engaged in illegal extraction and transport of natural resources that authorities are closely monitoring supply routes nationwide.

“Sa mga patuloy na sumusubok na mag-transport ng ating likas na yaman, this serves as a warning. We will continue to strengthen coordination and intelligence efforts. Walang puwang ang ganitong gawain.”

The PNP emphasized that the operation highlights the importance of lawful trade, proper documentation, and strict compliance with environmental regulations. Checkpoints across the country remain alert as part of broader efforts to combat organized and transnational crimes linked to resource exploitation.

This accomplishment underscores the firm commitment of the PNP to proactive, intelligence-driven policing at the national level—ensuring that law enforcement actions are swift, coordinated, and felt on the ground, in line with the vision of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
